Weather is only half the answer. Each guide weighs temperature and rain against crowds, school holidays, festival weeks and hotel prices — so you pick the window that suits you, not just the cheapest one.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to travel abroad from India?
It depends on where. October to March suits most of Asia, the Middle East and India itself; Europe is best from May to September; Australia and New Zealand from October to April. Each guide above gives the month-by-month detail.
Which months are cheapest for international travel from India?
Late January to March and September to mid-November usually have the lowest fares and hotel rates, outside the Diwali and Christmas weeks. May–June and late December are the most expensive because of school holidays.
Is the monsoon a bad time to travel?
Not always. Ladakh, Spiti and much of Europe are at their best during the Indian monsoon, and Kerala's monsoon brings Ayurveda packages at lower prices. Avoid coastal Goa and Andaman, and Himalayan routes prone to landslides, from July to mid-September.
