Planning a holiday within India
India rewards regional trips far more than national ones. Trying to combine Kashmir with Kerala in a single fortnight means spending most of it in airports. Pick a region, give it enough nights, and the trip transforms.
Seasons matter more than anywhere else
The plains and the mountains run on opposite calendars. Rajasthan, the Golden Triangle and Gujarat are at their best in the cooler months and genuinely punishing in the hot ones. Kashmir, Himachal, Uttarakhand and Ladakh reverse that entirely, with several high routes closed for much of the winter. Kerala and Goa have their own monsoon rhythm, which brings the landscape to life and the prices down.
Permits and paperwork
Several Indian destinations need permits even for Indian citizens — Inner Line Permits for parts of Ladakh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, safari permits for the tiger reserves, and yatra registration for the Char Dham. We arrange all of these as part of the booking rather than leaving you to discover them at a checkpoint.
How long do you need?
As a working guide: Golden Triangle five to six nights, Kashmir five, Kerala six to seven, Rajasthan eight to ten, Ladakh seven with a mandatory acclimatisation day, the Andamans six, Sikkim and Darjeeling six to seven, and the North East seven to eight. Weekend breaks from Delhi work best within about three hours' drive.
