When to travel

Sri Lanka has two monsoons affecting opposite coasts, so somewhere is always in season. December to March suits the west and south coasts and the hill country; May to September suits the east coast around Trincomalee and Arugam Bay. The cultural triangle around Sigiriya and Kandy is reasonable year-round.

Entry and paperwork

Indian passport holders require an Electronic Travel Authorisation, applied for online before departure and usually approved within a day or two. Some categories of visitor have been granted fee waivers at various points, so we confirm the current position at booking. Six months' passport validity is required.
