Quick answer
The best time to visit Oman is October to March, when Muscat's highs are 25–35°C and wadi hikes, desert camps and mountain drives are comfortable. November to February is the sweet spot. May to September is too hot for northern Oman, but Salalah in the south turns green and misty during the Khareef monsoon from late June to September, which suits a separate summer trip.

Why October to March is the best time to visit Oman
Oman is a road-trip country. A typical first visit links Muscat, the wadis on the coast road to Sur, the Wahiba Sands and the mountain forts around Nizwa, with two to three hours of driving most days. In the cooler months, Muscat's highs fall to 25–30°C, wadi pools are pleasant for swimming, and the desert is warm by day and cool at night. That combination only works from about mid-October to March.
Month-by-month: what to expect
November to February (peak)
The best months for almost everything. Nights at Jebel Shams (about 2,000 m) and Jebel Akhdar can be cold in January, so pack a warm layer. December is the busiest month, and desert camps and boutique hotels in Muscat fill for Christmas and New Year.
October and March (shoulder)
Highs of 29–35°C on the coast. Plan wadi hikes for the morning and desert dune drives for late afternoon. Good value, with fewer tour groups.
April to September (summer in the north)
Muscat reaches 38–40°C with sticky humidity, and the interior is hotter. Outdoor sightseeing is limited to dawn and evening.
The Salalah exception: Khareef season
Salalah, in the far south, catches the edge of the monsoon from about late June to late September. Hills turn green, waterfalls run and temperatures stay in the mid-20s. It is a very different trip from northern Oman and is popular with Gulf families, so book early. Kerala travellers often find it surprisingly familiar, with coconut palms and banana groves.
Short-notice flight disruption affected parts of the Gulf in 2026. Check your airline and the MEA advisory before paying in full.
