Quick answer

A 5-night Oman trip from India costs about ₹55,000 per person on a budget, ₹78,000 mid-range and ₹1.6 lakh for luxury, twin sharing, including return economy flights and the e-visa. Oman costs more on the ground than Dubai because you need a car for most sights; a 4WD with a driver-guide is the biggest expense after hotels.

How to spend less without ruining the trip

  • Travel as four and self-drive a 4WD; split four ways, a rental costs far less per person than a driver-guide.
  • Fuel is cheap in Oman, so long driving days do not add much to the bill.
  • Fly from Kochi, Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram or Mumbai if you can; these routes have the most competition.
  • Book desert camps on half board; there is nowhere else to eat in the Wahiba Sands.
  • Stock up on fruit, snacks and water at a supermarket in Muscat before road days.
  • Eat at Indian restaurants in Ruwi and Muscat's suburbs; a full thali costs a fraction of a hotel meal.

How much does an Oman trip cost from India?

For five nights, most travellers spend ₹55,000–78,000 per person, twin sharing, including flights and the e-visa. That is more than a Dubai trip of the same length, because Oman's highlights are spread along a road loop and need a car, and because desert camps and mountain hotels are priced for a smaller market.

TierFrom, per person (5 nights, with flights)
Budget₹55,000
Mid-range₹78,000
Luxury₹1,60,000

Self-drive vs driver-guide

This is the decision that moves your budget most. A self-drive 4WD costs roughly ₹4,000–6,500 a day before fuel, which becomes good value split between three or four people. Rental companies usually ask for an International Driving Permit with your Indian licence. A 4WD with a driver-guide costs about two to three times as much but handles the sand tracks to the camps and the Jebel Akhdar road, and most families and older travellers choose it.

Where the rest goes

Hotels in Muscat are reasonably priced; mountain resorts on Jebel Akhdar are the expensive nights. Desert camps range from simple tents to luxury tented suites, and almost all include dinner and breakfast. Entry fees are modest: the Grand Mosque is free, and forts such as Nizwa cost about OMR 5. See the list on things to do in Oman.

Visa and forex

Most Indian passport holders apply for a tourist e-visa, about OMR 20 (₹4,600) at the time of review; some with US, UK or Schengen visas may qualify for easier entry. Check current rules on our Oman visa guide. The Omani rial is a strong currency, at about ₹229, so prices that look small in rials add up. Use a forex card and carry some cash for souqs and wadi boats.

TCS applies to overseas tour packages bought in India and can be adjusted against your income tax.

Cheapest and most expensive times

December and the Christmas–New Year weeks are the most expensive. October, November and March are better value with good weather; see best time to visit Oman.

Vegetarians should budget a little more for food outside Muscat, where hotel restaurants are often the only reliable option. Our Oman food guide explains why.

Frequently asked questions

Is Oman more expensive than Dubai?
Usually, yes, by about 30–40% for the same number of nights. Flights are similar or cheaper, but Oman needs a car for nearly every sight, desert camps and mountain hotels cost more, and the rial is strong. Hotels in Muscat itself are comparable with mid-range Dubai.
How much does a car with driver cost in Oman?
A 4WD with an English-speaking driver-guide typically costs about OMR 55–85 per day for the vehicle, depending on season and distance. For a couple, that is about ₹25,000–39,000 per person over four days. Self-drive is cheaper for groups of three or four who are comfortable on sand tracks.
How much is the Oman e-visa for Indians?
At the time of review, the 30-day single-entry tourist e-visa costs about OMR 20, roughly ₹4,600, applied through the Royal Oman Police portal. Rules for Indian passport holders with US, UK or Schengen visas can differ. Fees and eligibility change, so check our Oman visa guide before applying.
What is a realistic daily budget in Oman?
Outside your hotel, plan on about ₹2,500–4,500 per person per day for meals, fuel or transport, entry fees and small purchases. Lunch at an Indian restaurant in Muscat costs far less than a hotel meal. Desert camp and mountain resort meals are pricier, though dinner is usually included at camps.
