How to spend less without ruining the trip

  • Check whether Qatar Airways is offering discounted stopover hotels through Discover Qatar when you book an onward ticket.
  • Use the Doha Metro with a day pass; it reaches the airport, Souq Waqif, West Bay, Katara and Lusail.
  • Plan around the free sights: Souq Waqif, the Corniche, MIA Park, Katara, The Pearl and Msheireb Museums.
  • Eat at Indian restaurants in Al Sadd, Bin Mahmoud and Al Najada; a full meal costs a fraction of a hotel buffet.
  • Avoid the Qatar Grand Prix week (27–29 November 2026) and National Day (18 December), when rates jump.
  • Book the desert safari as a shared afternoon tour rather than a private one.

How much does a Qatar trip cost from India?

For three nights, plan on ₹40,000–58,000 per person, twin sharing, including return flights. Qatar is a short-break destination: most of the budget goes on flights and the hotel, while the main sights are free or cheap.

Entry costs and the hotel rule

Indian passport holders can usually enter Qatar on a free visa waiver, provided they hold a confirmed hotel booking made through the approved channel, a return ticket and a passport valid for at least six months. An alternative is the Hayya e-visa, at about QAR 100. The hotel rule shapes your budget, because rooms booked only through general booking sites may not qualify for the waiver. Read our Qatar visa guide before paying for a room.

Where the money goes

Hotels are the largest line. Doha has many 4★ and 5★ hotels, and rates are reasonable outside major events. Compare areas on where to stay in Doha.

The desert safari to Khor Al Adaid is the main paid experience, at roughly QAR 250–450 per person on a shared trip. Museums cost about QAR 50 each for non-residents. Everything else on things to do in Qatar is low-cost.

Food is easy on the budget if you eat where Doha's large Indian community eats. Hotel restaurants and West Bay dining cost several times more.

Peak dates

The Qatar Grand Prix (27–29 November 2026) and National Day (18 December) lift hotel rates sharply, and Christmas–New Year is busy. January and February are better value with excellent weather; see best time to visit Qatar.

Forex and TCS

The Qatari riyal is about ₹24, close to the dirham. Cards work almost everywhere; carry a little cash for souq stalls and dhow rides. A forex card avoids poor bank conversion rates. TCS applies to overseas tour packages bought in India and can be adjusted against your income tax.

Gulf schedules were disrupted at short notice during parts of 2026. Choose refundable or changeable fares where the difference is small.

Frequently asked questions

Is Qatar expensive for Indian tourists?
Hotels and restaurants in West Bay and The Pearl are expensive, but a three-night trip can stay affordable. The souq, Corniche, Katara and Msheireb Museums are free, the metro is cheap, and Indian restaurants are everywhere. Expect about ₹40,000–58,000 per person including flights.
Do Indians need to pay for a Qatar visa?
Usually not. Indian passport holders can typically enter on a free visa waiver of up to 30 days, but it depends on holding a confirmed hotel booking through the approved channel, a return ticket and a passport valid for six months. The Hayya e-visa, about QAR 100, is an alternative. Check our Qatar visa guide first.
How much does a Doha desert safari cost?
A shared half-day desert safari to Khor Al Adaid costs roughly QAR 250–450 per person, about ₹6,000–10,800, including hotel pickup, dune driving, sandboarding and a camel ride. Private safaris and overnight camps cost more. Afternoon departures that include sunset at the Inland Sea are the most popular.
What is a good daily budget in Doha?
Outside your hotel, plan on about ₹3,000–5,500 per person per day for meals, metro and taxi rides, museum tickets and small purchases. Eating at Indian restaurants in Al Sadd or Bin Mahmoud keeps costs at the lower end. Fine dining in West Bay pushes it much higher.
