Quick answer
Indian passport holders can enter Qatar for up to 30 days without applying in advance, as long as the hotel is booked through Discover Qatar, the official accommodation platform. If you book a hotel elsewhere or stay with family, apply for a Hayya e-visa online instead, at about QAR 100 (₹2,400). Carry a return ticket and health insurance valid in Qatar.

Common mistakes that get Indians refused
- A hotel booked on a general booking site does not qualify for the on-arrival route; Indians must use Discover Qatar or apply for a Hayya e-visa.
- Health insurance for visitors is mandatory; carry the policy document, as it can be checked at entry.
- Airlines check the hotel and return-ticket conditions at boarding in India, so missing paperwork usually stops you before you fly.
- Discover Qatar's mandatory-hotel list can change; check the Visit Qatar visa page in the week you travel.
Do Indians need a visa for Qatar?
Not in advance, if you follow the hotel rule. Indian passport holders can get entry on arrival at Hamad International Airport for up to 30 days, provided the hotel is booked through Discover Qatar, the destination company of Qatar Airways that the Ministry of Interior uses for this route. Discover Qatar's own page lists India among the nationalities that must book this way.
If you want to stay somewhere not sold by Discover Qatar, or with relatives, apply online for a Hayya e-visa. Visit Qatar describes the Hayya route as the alternative to the hotel-linked arrival route.
How to apply, step by step
Route 1: visa on arrival
- Book your flights, then book your hotel on Discover Qatar for every night of the stay.
- Buy health insurance valid in Qatar (many Indian policies work; check that the certificate names Qatar).
- Fly with your passport, return ticket, hotel confirmation and insurance.
- At immigration, show the documents and you are stamped in, usually for 30 days.
Route 2: Hayya e-visa
- Register on the Hayya platform and choose the tourist visa.
- Upload your passport, photo, return ticket and accommodation details.
- Pay about QAR 100 (₹2,400) and wait for approval, usually a few working days.
What officers check
Doha immigration is efficient, but airline staff in India apply the rules strictly. Expect to show the Discover Qatar voucher, return ticket and insurance at check-in. At the airport in Doha, officers can ask about your plans and funds. A credit card and a clear hotel plan answer most questions.
Families, seniors and stopovers
Each family member needs to meet the rules individually, and hotel bookings must cover everyone. Qatar works well for older travellers: short distances, good hospitals and a quiet pace. Long Qatar Airways layovers can be turned into a short stopover by booking a hotel through Discover Qatar; ask the airline while booking.
Discover Qatar rates are sometimes higher than general booking sites. On most Doha trips we plan, the difference is small for one or two nights; for longer stays, compare it with a Hayya visa plus your preferred hotel.
