Quick answer

The best things to do in Qatar are the Museum of Islamic Art and National Museum, an evening at Souq Waqif, a dhow ride on the Corniche, Katara Cultural Village and a desert safari to Khor Al Adaid, where the dunes meet the sea. Add mangrove kayaking at Al Thakira or the UNESCO-listed Al Zubarah Fort with a fourth day. Most visitors need three to four days.

How many days do you need in Qatar?

Three to four days is right for most travellers. One day for the two big museums and the Corniche, one for Souq Waqif and Msheireb, one for a desert safari, and an optional fourth for the north. Doha also works as a one- or two-night stopover on the way to Europe. See the plan on our itineraries page.

Is Doha good for a stopover?

Yes. Hamad International Airport is about 20 minutes from the centre, the metro connects the airport with Souq Waqif, West Bay and Lusail, and the main sights cluster within a few kilometres. A 24-hour stopover can comfortably fit the Museum of Islamic Art, the Corniche and Souq Waqif.

Etiquette and what to wear

Qatar is conservative. Keep shoulders and knees covered in museums, malls and souqs, and dress modestly at public beaches. Photography of government buildings and of local women without permission is not acceptable. Alcohol is served only in licensed hotel restaurants and bars.

Getting around

The Doha Metro is clean, cheap and air-conditioned, with Gold Club and family carriages. Taxis and ride-hailing apps cover the rest. You will need a tour operator or a 4WD rental for Khor Al Adaid; ordinary hire cars cannot drive on the dunes.

Entry for Indian passport holders depends on a confirmed hotel booking made through the approved channel. Read our Qatar visa guide before booking a room.

Frequently asked questions

Is Qatar worth visiting for Indians?
Yes, for a short break or a stopover. Qatar offers world-class museums, a lively souq, a striking desert where dunes meet the sea, and easy Indian food. Flights are short from most Indian metros, and entry is relatively simple for Indian passport holders with the right hotel booking. Three or four days is enough.
What can I do in Doha for free?
The Corniche, MIA Park, Souq Waqif, Katara Cultural Village, The Pearl-Qatar, Lusail Boulevard, the Msheireb Museums and the Al Zubarah UNESCO site are all free. Paid highlights are the Museum of Islamic Art, the National Museum and the desert safari. A metro day pass keeps transport cheap.
Can I do a Doha desert safari on my own?
Not really. The route to Khor Al Adaid crosses soft dunes and needs a 4WD, deflated tyres and desert-driving experience; ordinary rental cars are not insured for it. Book a licensed tour operator, ideally an afternoon departure, which costs roughly QAR 250–450 per person on a shared trip.
