Quick answer
The best time to visit Thailand is November to February, when Bangkok is driest and least humid and the Andaman coast around Phuket and Krabi has calm seas. March to May is very hot, and June to October brings monsoon rain. The Gulf islands such as Koh Samui run on a different pattern, with their wettest months from October to December.

Festivals and events in Thailand
13–15 April every year
Songkran (Thai New Year)
Nationwide water fights, biggest on Bangkok's Silom Road and in Chiang Mai. Fun for groups; tiring for seniors and hard on phones.
25 November 2026 (Yi Peng in Chiang Mai 24–25 Nov)
Loy Krathong and Yi Peng
Floating krathongs on rivers nationwide and sky lanterns in Chiang Mai. Mass lantern releases are ticketed and sell out.
Ninth lunar month; 10–18 October in 2026
Phuket Vegetarian Festival
Nine days of meat-free jay food stalls and processions in Phuket Town. Great vegetarian eating, though the piercing rituals are graphic.
6 February 2027
Chinese New Year in Yaowarat
Bangkok's Chinatown closes to traffic for dragon dances, lanterns and food stalls.
31 December
New Year countdown
Fireworks over the Chao Phraya at ICONSIAM and on Patong beach. Resorts often insist on minimum stays.
When is the best time to go to Thailand from India?
November to February is the easiest window. Daytime highs in Bangkok and Pattaya sit around 31–33°C with lower humidity than the rest of the year, and the Andaman Sea around Phuket and Krabi is calm enough for speedboat island-hopping. The catch is price: this is peak season, and Christmas–New Year rates can be roughly double what you would pay in June.
Which coast should you pick for your month?
Thailand has two beach coasts with opposite monsoons, so the right beach depends on when you travel.
| Region | Best months | Wettest months |
|---|---|---|
| Bangkok, Pattaya, Ayutthaya | November–February | August–October |
| Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi (Andaman coast) | November–April | May–October |
| Koh Samui, Koh Phangan (Gulf coast) | January–August | October–December |
| Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai (north) | November–January | July–September |
The climate table on this page shows Bangkok averages. If you can only travel in July or August, Koh Samui is the beach to choose. See our Phuket month guide and Krabi month guide for the Andaman side.
Is Thailand worth visiting in the monsoon?
For many Indian families, June is the only window that fits school holidays, and it works better than you might expect. Rain usually arrives as a heavy afternoon burst rather than all day, hotel rates drop, and Bangkok's temples, malls and Safari World do not depend on sunshine. The real losses are on the Andaman coast: rough seas cancel some speedboat trips, red flags close beaches to swimmers, and the Similan Islands shut from mid-May to mid-October. September is the wettest month and the one we would skip.
What about March to May?
Dry but very hot. April often reaches 36–37°C in Bangkok with sticky humidity, and Chiang Mai sits under smoke haze from crop burning between February and April. If these are your dates, do temples early in the morning and keep afternoons for malls, the pool or a massage.
Indian passport holders get 30 days visa-free for tourism (since 15 September 2026), but you still need the free online arrival card, TDAC. Details are on our Thailand visa guide.
