How to spend less without ruining the trip
- Travel in May–June or September–October for lower hotel rates, and avoid Diwali week, Christmas and New Year, when prices peak.
- Book Safari World, Coral Island and the dinner cruise as part of a package; street-agent combos often add hidden transfer charges.
- Thai ATMs charge about 220 baht per withdrawal on foreign cards, so withdraw larger amounts less often or carry a forex card loaded with baht.
- Use the BTS, MRT and Grab or Bolt instead of street taxis and tuk-tuks, which routinely overcharge tourists.
- Eat lunch in mall food courts such as Terminal 21 and MBK, where a full meal costs ₹200–400.
- Flying from Kolkata is often the cheapest way in; families from eastern India can save several thousand rupees per person.
How much does a Thailand trip cost from India?
For a 5-night trip with two nights in Pattaya and three in Bangkok, expect to pay from about ₹40,000 per person on a budget, ₹55,000 mid-range and ₹1,10,000 for luxury, twin sharing and including return flights from Delhi or Mumbai. Thailand remains one of the best-value international trips from India because flights are short, hotels are good value and there is no visa fee for Indian tourists.
Where does the money go?
Flights are the biggest single cost at roughly a third to two-fifths of a mid-range budget. Hotels come next, then tours. In mid-range terms, a 4★ room in Pattaya costs about ₹4,500–6,500 a night and in Bangkok ₹5,500–8,000, or roughly half that per person when sharing. The land portion of a mid-range trip, before meals, starts around ₹27,000 per person.
| Cost item | Budget | Mid-range |
|---|---|---|
| Return flights | ₹18,000–24,000 | ₹20,000–28,000 |
| Hotels, 5 nights | ₹7,000–11,000 | ₹14,000–20,000 |
| Transfers and tours | ₹8,000–11,000 | ₹12,500–18,000 |
| Meals | ₹4,500–7,000 | ₹7,000–11,000 |
What costs do people forget?
- TCS. If you buy an overseas package from an Indian operator, 2% TCS is collected upfront (the rate since 1 April 2026). You can adjust it against your income tax when you file.
- Baggage. Low-cost fares often exclude checked bags. Adding 20 kg later can cost ₹3,000–5,000 each way.
- Watersports and park fees. Parasailing, sea-walking and national park fees on island trips are usually extra.
- ATM fees. Thai banks charge about 220 baht (₹600) per foreign-card withdrawal.
Thailand currently charges no visa fee for Indian tourists, and the TDAC arrival card is free. A proposed tourist entry fee for air arrivals has been discussed for several years; check its status before you travel.
At the border, officers can ask to see a return ticket, hotel bookings and funds of about 20,000 baht per person. It is rarely checked, but carry printouts and a forex card.
How can you make it cheaper or better?
Kolkata and Chennai often have the lowest fares to Bangkok. If you have six or seven nights, adding Phuket costs more than staying longer in Pattaya, but it gives you the islands; see our 7-day Thailand itinerary and the separate Phuket trip cost.
