How to spend less without ruining the trip
- Travel in May, June or September for dry weather at shoulder-season prices.
- Book non-stop flights early; one-stop fares via Kuala Lumpur or Singapore can be cheaper but add 4–8 hours.
- Hire a car with driver by the day instead of booking a separate tour for each sight.
- Pay the Bali levy only on the official Love Bali site or app; copycat sites add charges.
- Eat at warungs and Indian restaurants in Kuta and Ubud, where a vegetarian meal costs ₹300–600.
- Change money only at authorised money changers; roadside counters with unusually good rates often short-change.
How much does a Bali trip cost from India?
A 6-night Bali trip costs about ₹60,000–82,000 per person from India for most travellers, twin sharing, with return flights. The lower figure assumes 3-star hotels and shared tours; the higher one assumes 4-star hotels in Seminyak and Ubud, a private car and the big excursions. Luxury trips with private-pool villas and 5-star resorts start around ₹1.65 lakh.
Bali is cheaper on the ground than Singapore or Japan. Hotels and drivers are good value, and spa treatments cost less than in Indian metros. Flights are the biggest single line, so your departure city and dates matter more than anything else.
What drives the cost?
| Factor | Cheaper | Pricier |
|---|---|---|
| Season | February–March, November | July–August, late December |
| Base | Kuta, Legian | Seminyak, Uluwatu, Nusa Dua |
| Ubud stay | 3-star hotel in town | Private-pool villa in the rice fields |
| Touring | Shared tours | Private car and driver |
Visa, levy and arrival costs
Indian passport holders can get Indonesia's visa on arrival, or apply online for the e-VoA, for IDR 500,000 (about ₹2,700). It allows 30 days and can be extended once. Bali also charges every foreign visitor a tourist levy of IDR 150,000 (about ₹810), paid online before you fly. Our Indonesia visa guide covers the details.
Money on the ground
Budget ₹2,500–4,500 per person per day, excluding hotel and tours, for meals, water, short cab rides and tips. A vegetarian meal at a local warung costs ₹300–600; a sit-down dinner in Seminyak ₹1,200–2,500. Cards work in hotels and most restaurants, but carry rupiah for warungs, temples and markets. A forex card, or US dollars changed at authorised money changers, gives the best rate; see our foreign exchange service.
TCS is added to overseas tour packages booked in India. It isn't a cost: you claim it back against your income tax when you file your return.
