Quick answer
The best time to visit Phuket is November to April, when the Andaman Sea is calm, beaches are swimmable and island tours to Phi Phi and Phang Nga Bay run reliably. December to February is peak season and priciest. May to October is the southwest monsoon, with rough seas, red-flag beaches and September the wettest month, but rates are much lower.

When is the best time to visit Phuket?
November to April. These are the dry months on the Andaman coast: seas are calm, west-coast beaches like Kata, Karon and Kamala are safe for swimming, and speedboat tours to Phi Phi, James Bond Island and the Similan Islands run on schedule. December to February is the sweet spot for weather and also the most expensive period, so March is the month we often suggest for value without giving up much sunshine.
What happens in Phuket's monsoon?
From May to October the southwest monsoon pushes swell onto the west coast. It rarely rains all day, but red flags go up on Patong, Karon and Kata, and lifeguards will whistle you out of the water. Drownings in rip currents happen every season, so take the flags seriously, especially with children.
Island trips are the bigger issue. Big boats to Phi Phi still sail on most days, but speedboat tours cancel when the sea is rough, and the Similan Islands close entirely from mid-May to mid-October. Phang Nga Bay is sheltered and usually runs year-round.
| Season | Months | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Peak | December–February | Calm seas, highest prices |
| Shoulder | March–April, November | Good weather, better rates |
| Monsoon | May–October | Rough seas, cheap rooms, some tours cancelled |
Is Phuket good in June for Indian families?
It can be, if you set expectations. June rates are often well below December's, and you can still do Phang Nga Bay, the Big Buddha, Old Phuket Town, the cabaret shows and a resort pool. Build one spare day into the plan for the Phi Phi trip in case a boat cancels, and choose a hotel with a good pool over a beachfront room.
Pick east-coast or bay-side activities on rough days. Phang Nga Bay and Old Phuket Town are rarely affected by the swell that closes west-coast beaches.
