When is the best time to go to Krabi?
November to April. This is the dry season on the Andaman coast, and in Krabi the weather matters more than in most beach towns because nearly everything worth doing involves a boat: the longtail to Railay, the 4 Islands tour, the Hong Islands, kayaking in Ao Thalane and day trips to Phi Phi. January to March is the most reliable stretch, with flat water and clear skies. December is just as good for weather but books out at Christmas.
What is Krabi like from May to October?
The southwest monsoon brings heavy showers, strong winds and swell. Mornings are often bright, so tours still run on many days, but cancellations are common, especially for speedboats and the Hong Islands. Longtail boats from Ao Nang to Railay may stop running in rough seas, which matters if you are staying on Railay. Koh Lanta goes very quiet, and many of its resorts and restaurants close from about May to October.
On the plus side, rooms cost a fraction of peak rates, the limestone cliffs are greener, and Tiger Cave Temple, the Emerald Pool and the hot springs work well in any weather.
