Quick answer
April to June and September to October are the best times to visit Spain. Barcelona sees highs of 19–26°C, Madrid and Seville are comfortable for walking, and the sea is warm from June. July and August are crowded, with Seville and Córdoba often above 38°C. Winter is mild on the coast and cheap, and suits city breaks well.

When is the best time to visit Spain?
April to June and September to October. Barcelona sits at 19–26°C, Madrid's evenings are pleasant for walking, and Andalusia — Seville, Granada and Córdoba — is warm without being punishing. Spring brings orange blossom and festivals; autumn brings a warm sea and thinner crowds.
If Andalusia is on your route, lean towards April, May or October. Seville regularly passes 38°C in July and August, and a midday visit to the Alcázar or the Alhambra in that heat is exhausting, especially with children or parents.
Is Spain good in summer?
For beaches, yes; for cities, it's hard work. Barcelona is humid at 29°C and crowded, the Costa Brava and Balearics fill up, and prices peak. Madrid and Seville are hotter and drier, and Spaniards themselves avoid the inland cities in August. If summer is your only window, base yourself on the coast and plan sightseeing early and late — Spanish dinner starts at 9 pm anyway.
What about winter?
November to February is mild on the Mediterranean coast (14–17°C in Barcelona), sunny more often than not and cheaper. Madrid can be cold at night, close to freezing in January. It's a good season for a city-and-food trip and for short queues at the Sagrada Família and the Prado.
Planning around Indian holidays
- May–June: the best weather; book Sagrada Família and Alhambra slots as soon as they open.
- Diwali (October–November): a strong window, especially for Andalusia.
- Christmas–New Year: lights and markets; 6–8 December is a Spanish long weekend.
