When is the best time to visit the UK?
May to September. London averages 18–24°C, the parks are in full use, and in June there's usable daylight from about 5 am to past 9:30 pm. This is also when Scotland's Highlands are greenest and day tours from Edinburgh to Loch Ness and Glencoe make the most sense.
Within that window, May and September are the sweet spots. June is the busiest month for Indian families, and from late July UK school holidays push up hotel rates and fill attractions such as the Harry Potter studio tour.
Does it rain all the time?
No, but it can rain in any month. London gets about 600 mm a year — less than Mumbai gets in an average July — spread out as light showers rather than downpours. A compact umbrella or packable rain jacket is enough. Scotland's west coast is much wetter.
Is the UK worth visiting in winter?
December works for a Christmas-focused trip: Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, the Regent Street and Oxford Street lights, and markets. The trade-offs are cold (3–9°C), sunset before 4 pm and near-total shutdown on 25–26 December. January to March is the cheapest period, with good theatre and museum value but limited daylight for touring.
Planning around Indian holidays
- May–June: apply for your visa 6–8 weeks ahead; standard processing is about three weeks, longer in peak months.
- Diwali: London marks it with a free event on Trafalgar Square, and Wembley, Southall and Leicester light up.
- Christmas: book trains early; services are reduced over the holidays.
The UK is not in Schengen, so you need a separate UK visitor visa. Our visa assistance team can check your file before submission.
