When to travel

May to September gives the longest days and warmest weather, with June and July the peak. April and October are quieter and cheaper with a real chance of good weather. Winter is short on daylight — dark by four in December — but Christmas markets and lower rates compensate.

Indian passport holders require a UK Standard Visitor visa, applied for online with biometrics at a visa application centre. Processing is typically three weeks but can be longer in peak season, and priority services are available at extra cost.
