When is the best time to visit Mauritius?

For most Indian travellers, May to November works best. This is the southern-hemisphere winter: dry, sunny and comfortable, with daytime highs of 24–28°C. May and September to November are the sweet spot — warm enough to swim all day, with little rain on the west and north coasts.

What are winter and summer like in Mauritius?

Seasons run opposite to India's. June to August is the coolest stretch: about 24°C by day and 17°C at night, with brisk south-east trade winds that make the east and south coasts breezy and the sea cooler, about 22–23°C. Carry a light jacket for evenings and for the hills around Chamarel and Black River Gorges.

December to April is the hot, humid summer, with highs around 30°C and most of the year's rain. Tropical cyclones are possible from mid-November to April, with the highest risk from January to March. Direct hits are uncommon, but warnings can close beaches and cancel boat trips for a day or two.

Which coast is best in which season?

SeasonBest coastWhy
May–OctoberNorth (Grand Baie) and west (Flic en Flac)Sheltered from trade winds, sunniest
November–AprilEast (Belle Mare) and northCalmer seas on the east in summer
Any timeSouth-west (Le Morne)Kitesurfing in winter, sunsets year-round

When do Indian travellers usually go?

Indian demand peaks in the May–June school holidays, around Diwali and from Christmas to New Year. Book flights eight to ten weeks ahead for those weeks — fares from Mumbai and Bengaluru rise sharply. Maha Shivaratri sees huge crowds walk to Ganga Talao, which is moving to witness but slow going on the roads.

Frequently asked questions

Which month is cheapest for Mauritius?
June to August and February to March are usually the cheapest. Winter months are cool but dry; late summer is humid with cyclone risk. Avoid the May–June Indian school holidays, Diwali week and Christmas to New Year if you are price-sensitive, as return flights from India climb steeply in those weeks.
Is Mauritius too cold in July?
Not for most people. Daytime highs are around 24°C and nights fall to about 17°C, much like Bengaluru in December. The sea is cooler at about 22°C, so swimming is brisk, and the east and south coasts are windy. Stay on the north or west coast and pack a light jacket.
When is cyclone season in Mauritius?
Officially from mid-November to April, with the highest risk from January to March. Most years bring warnings rather than direct hits. Buy travel insurance that covers weather disruption and keep a buffer day before your flight home if you travel in these months.
What is the best time for a Mauritius honeymoon?
September to November is ideal: dry, warm, the sea warming towards 25°C and fewer families than in May–June. April and May also work well. If your wedding is in December to February you can still go — expect humidity, short showers and a small chance of cyclone disruption.
