How to spend less without ruining the trip

  • Book flights eight to ten weeks ahead for Diwali, May–June and Christmas, when fares from Mumbai and Bengaluru can double.
  • Choose half board and eat lunch at roadside dholl puri and farata stalls for ₹50–300 a person.
  • Travel between June and August for lower hotel rates; it is cool but dry.
  • If you are three or four people, hire a car with driver for tour days instead of buying separate coach tours.
  • Book catamaran days with local operators in Grand Baie or Trou d'Eau Douce rather than through the resort.
  • Choose hotels that include free non-motorised water sports such as kayaks and snorkelling gear.
  • Buy rum, spices and vanilla tea in supermarkets rather than tourist shops.

How much does a Mauritius trip cost from India?

Mauritius sits between Thailand and the Maldives on price. Flights cost more than to Southeast Asia because there are few non-stop routes, but 4★ hotels give good value, and Indian-style vegetarian food is cheap outside resorts. For most Indian families and honeymooners, six nights at a 4★ beach resort with half board and three day tours comes to about ₹1.1–1.4 lakh per person with flights.

What do flights cost?

FromReturn economyRouting
Mumbai₹35,000–55,000Non-stop options, about 6 hours
Bengaluru₹35,000–55,000IndiGo non-stop, about 6 hours
Delhi₹42,000–65,000Usually one stop via Mumbai or the Gulf
Chennai₹40,000–60,000Usually one stop

Non-stop schedules change by season, so compare one-stop options via Dubai as well. Fares jump in the May–June holidays, around Diwali and at Christmas.

Where does the money go?

Hotels are the largest share. A 4★ beach resort on half board costs about ₹8,000–11,500 per person per night, twin sharing. Since 1 October 2025, Mauritius has also charged a tourist fee of EUR 3 (about ₹306) per person per night for guests aged 12 and over, collected by the hotel and usually not included in package prices. The three classic tours add ₹10,000–16,000.

How much will you spend each day?

Outside the hotel, budget ₹2,500–5,000 per person per day. A dholl puri costs MUR 25–40 (₹50–75), a vegetarian thali at an Indian restaurant MUR 300–500 (₹570–950), and a taxi between nearby beaches MUR 500–1,000 (₹950–1,900). Resort lunches cost three or four times as much.

Payments and forex

Cards work at hotels, malls and most restaurants. Carry some euros or US dollars to change on arrival, and Mauritian rupees for markets and street food; UPI is accepted only at a limited number of merchants. Overseas tour packages bought in India attract TCS, adjustable against your income tax — ask for the current rate when booking. Our foreign exchange service can help.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum budget for a Mauritius trip from India?
About ₹80,000–90,000 per person for six nights, with flights from Mumbai or Bengaluru, a 3★ hotel or apartment, breakfast and two shared tours. You can go lower with a self-catering apartment, but return flights alone are rarely below ₹35,000.
How much does a Mauritius honeymoon cost?
For six nights at a 4★ beach resort with half board, three tours and flights, budget about ₹2.2–2.8 lakh for a couple. A 5★ resort on the east or south-west coast raises it to ₹5.5 lakh or more. Many resorts add honeymoon extras with proof of a recent marriage.
Is the Mauritius tourist fee included in package prices?
Usually not. The EUR 3 per person per night fee for guests aged 12 and over has applied since 1 October 2025 and is normally collected by the hotel. For a couple staying six nights, budget EUR 36, about ₹3,700. Check your hotel voucher before you travel.
Which is cheaper, Mauritius or the Maldives?
For the same hotel class, Mauritius is usually cheaper on the ground — meals, transfers and tours cost less, and there are no seaplanes. Flights from India cost more, though. Six nights at a 4★ Mauritius resort typically costs only a little more than four nights at a 4★ Maldives resort.
