Our verdict
Pick Mauritius for a better-value honeymoon or family trip: easy entry, non-stop flights, a large Indian-origin community so vegetarian food is simple, and 6 nights from about ₹50,000 on land. Pick Seychelles if the budget stretches to about ₹85,000+ on land for 5 nights and you want granite-boulder beaches, island-hopping between Mahé, Praslin and La Digue, and fewer people.

The short version
Mauritius is the better all-rounder for Indian honeymooners and families: easier, cheaper, more to do and culturally familiar. Seychelles is the more exclusive, more photogenic choice for couples who want striking beaches and few people, and who can afford roughly 60–70% more.
Entry and flights
Both are easy. Mauritius admits Indian passport holders free of charge on arrival for tourist stays, with a return ticket, hotel booking and an online arrival form. Seychelles also gives a free visitor's permit on arrival, but you must first apply online for a Seychelles Travel Authorisation, which carries a small fee. See the Mauritius visa guide and Seychelles visa guide.
Non-stop flights reach Mauritius in about 6 hours from Mumbai and 7.5–8 hours from Delhi. Air Seychelles flies Mumbai–Mahé non-stop in about 4.5 hours; from Delhi you connect via Mumbai or the Gulf.
Cost
Six nights in Mauritius start around ₹50,000 per person on land, twin sharing, in a 3★–4★ beach resort with breakfast and sightseeing, or roughly ₹95,000 with flights. Five nights in Seychelles, usually split between Mahé and Praslin, start around ₹85,000 on land and roughly ₹1.4 lakh with flights. Seychelles hotels cost more, inter-island ferries add ₹10,000–15,000 per person, and restaurant meals are expensive. See Mauritius trip cost.
Food and culture: Mauritius feels familiar
About two-thirds of Mauritians are of Indian origin, Hindi and Bhojpuri are widely understood, and vegetarian food is everywhere, from dholl puri at street stalls to Indian restaurants in every town. Ganga Talao (Grand Bassin), a crater lake with a large Shiva statue, is a pilgrimage site many Indian visitors include. Seychelles' Creole cooking leans on fish, octopus and curries, and vegetarian or Jain meals are reliable mostly inside resorts.
Beaches
Seychelles wins. Anse Source d'Argent on La Digue, with its granite boulders, and Anse Lazio on Praslin are among the most photographed beaches anywhere. Mauritius has long, reef-protected lagoon beaches — Belle Mare, Trou aux Biches, Le Morne — with calm, clear water, which suits families better.
Things to do
Mauritius has more: catamaran trips to Île aux Cerfs, the Chamarel coloured earth, Black River Gorges, parasailing and undersea walks, and the island is only about 1.5–2 hours end to end by car. Seychelles is about island-hopping, snorkelling, giant tortoises on Curieuse and walks through the Vallée de Mai on Praslin. See things to do in Seychelles.
Seasons
Mauritius is best from May to December; January to March is cyclone season, with heavy rain. Seychelles lies mostly outside the cyclone belt and is warm all year; April–May and October–November have the calmest seas for snorkelling. See best time to visit Mauritius.
Can you combine Mauritius and Seychelles?
Yes, if the budget allows. Flights link the two in about 2.5–3 hours, but only a few times a week. A 10–11 night honeymoon of 5 nights in Mauritius and 5 in Seychelles works well; fix the inter-island flight first, then build the hotel nights around it.
