Quick answer
The best time to visit South Korea is spring (April to early June) or autumn (mid-September to mid-November). Seoul sits at 15–25°C, skies are clear, cherry blossoms appear in early April and autumn leaves peak in late October. Avoid the July monsoon and humid August. Winter is very cold, often below zero, but good for snow.

When is the best time to visit South Korea?
Korea's seasons are sharper than most Indian travellers expect. Seoul swings from −5°C nights in January to 30°C humid days in August. The two easy windows are spring (April to early June) and autumn (mid-September to mid-November): mild days, little rain and the scenery that fills K-drama montages.
Spring starts with cherry blossoms in early April at Yeouido and Seokchon Lake in Seoul, with the Jinhae festival near Busan a week or so earlier. Autumn is arguably better: dry, clear skies, and maples turning red at Seoraksan from mid-October and in Seoul's palaces by late October.
Should you avoid the monsoon months?
The monsoon, called jangma, usually arrives in late June and lasts through July. July brings more than 400 mm of rain to Seoul, and heavy downpours sometimes flood low-lying roads and close hiking trails. August is less rainy but hot and sticky. If your only window is the May–June school holiday, go in May or the first half of June.
Is winter in Korea worth it?
For snow lovers, yes. Ski resorts such as Yongpyong and Vivaldi Park open from December, and Nami Island looks completely different under snow. But Seoul's January lows sit around −5°C with a wind chill well below that, so you'll need thermals, a down jacket, gloves and a cap. Many Indian travellers find it harder going than Europe in winter.
Holidays that change your trip
Korea's two big family holidays, Seollal (Lunar New Year, around 6 February 2027) and Chuseok (mid-September 2027), see many restaurants and small shops close for two or three days, while palaces and big attractions stay open. KTX trains sell out weeks in advance.
Indian passport holders need a visa for mainland Korea. Apply four to six weeks before travel; the South Korea visa guide has the documents list.
