How to spend less without ruining the trip

  • Travelling on a registered group tour? Ask about Korea's visa fee waiver for Indian group tourists, reported to run until 30 June 2027.
  • Take the AREX train or airport limousine bus from Incheon instead of a ₹4,000–5,500 taxi.
  • Eat set lunches and convenience-store meals; Korean convenience stores are excellent and cheap.
  • Rent a hanbok for free entry to Seoul's royal palaces.
  • Book KTX tickets early for weekends; the Korail Pass for foreigners only pays off with several long trips.
  • Claim instant tax refunds on shopping with your passport; many stores deduct the tax at the till.

How much does a South Korea trip cost from India?

A 6-night South Korea trip covering Seoul and Busan costs about ₹92,000–1,30,000 per person from India, twin sharing, including return flights and the visa. The lower figure assumes 3-star hotels, self-guided days and one DMZ tour; the higher one assumes better-located 3-star and 4-star hotels, the DMZ and Nami Island tours, the KTX and meals out. Luxury trips start around ₹2.8 lakh.

Korea costs more than Southeast Asia, mainly because of longer flights, the visa and Seoul's hotel rates. On the ground it's good value: palaces charge ₩3,000 (about ₹190), the metro is cheap, and convenience-store meals are filling.

Visa costs

Indian passport holders need a visa for mainland Korea, applied for through the Korea Visa Application Centre in India. Budget about ₹4,000–5,000 for a single-entry tourist visa including the service charge, and allow three to four weeks. Jeju Island is visa-free for 30 days only if you fly there directly from abroad. See the South Korea visa guide or our visa assistance service.

Daily spending

Budget ₹3,500–5,500 per person per day for meals, transport and entry fees, excluding the hotel. A convenience-store meal costs ₩5,000–8,000 (₹300–500) and a casual restaurant meal ₩10,000–15,000 (₹630–950). Cards work almost everywhere, including taxis; carry some cash for T-money top-ups and market stalls. A forex card avoids heavy bank mark-ups; see our foreign exchange service.

TCS is added to overseas tour packages booked in India. It's claimable against your income tax, so you get it back when you file your return.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a South Korea trip cost for a couple?
A 6-night Seoul and Busan trip for a couple costs about ₹2.6–3 lakh in total from Delhi on a mid-range plan, including flights, visas, 3-star and 4-star hotels, the KTX, the DMZ and Nami tours, and meals. A budget version with simpler hotels and self-guided days costs about ₹1.85–2.1 lakh for two.
Is South Korea more expensive than Japan?
They're close. Flights from Delhi to Seoul are often a little cheaper than to Tokyo, but Korea's visa costs more and Seoul's mid-range hotels are similarly priced. On the ground, Korea's metro and food are slightly cheaper, while Japan's bullet trains cost more. A 6-night Korea trip and a 7-night Japan trip usually end up within ₹30,000 of each other.
How much Korean won should I carry?
Carry about ₩100,000–150,000 (₹6,300–9,500) in cash per person for a week, mainly for T-money top-ups and market food, and use a forex card for everything else. Korea is close to cashless, and international Visa and Mastercard cards work in shops, restaurants and taxis. Licensed changers in Myeongdong usually beat airport rates.
Is there a Korean visa fee waiver for Indians?
At the time of review, Korea waives visa fees for Indian group tourists travelling on packages arranged through registered agencies, and reports say the scheme runs until 30 June 2027. It doesn't apply to independent travellers, who pay the normal fee. Ask your tour operator whether your group qualifies before you apply.
