How should you split 7 days in Korea?

Four nights in Seoul and two in Busan gives you the country's two very different cities without long transfers. Seoul covers palaces, markets, nightlife and the two classic day trips, the DMZ and Nami Island. Busan, about two and a half hours away by KTX, adds beaches, a seaside temple and the fish market.

In cherry blossom season, consider swapping one Busan day for Gyeongju, the old royal capital, which sits on the KTX line between the two cities.

What does this itinerary cost?

The mid-range land cost starts at about ₹65,000 per person, twin sharing, for six nights in 3-star and 4-star hotels, KTX tickets, the DMZ and Nami tours, airport transfers and entry fees. Meals add ₹2,500–4,000 per person a day. Flights from India (about ₹40,000–70,000 return) and the visa are extra. See the South Korea trip cost for the breakdown.

Before you book

  • Indians need a Korean visa, applied for through the visa application centre in India; allow three to four weeks. See the South Korea visa guide.
  • Book DMZ tours a few days ahead, as operators need your passport details.
  • Spring and autumn are the best seasons; see the best time to visit South Korea.

Download Naver Map before you land. Google Maps doesn't give reliable walking or driving directions in Korea.

Vegetarians should read the Korea food guide; eating meat-free here takes planning.

Frequently asked questions

Is 7 days enough for South Korea?
Seven days covers Seoul and Busan well, including day trips to the DMZ and Nami Island. You won't have time for Jeju, Gyeongju or Seoraksan National Park unless you drop a Seoul day trip. With ten days, add three nights in Jeju or a night in Gyeongju between Seoul and Busan.
Is the KTX from Seoul to Busan worth it?
Yes. The KTX takes about 2 hours 30 minutes to 2 hours 50 minutes, centre to centre, and costs about ₩59,800 (around ₹3,800) one way in standard class. Flying is barely faster once you add airport time. Book on the Korail website a week ahead for weekends and Korean holidays.
Can I do this Korea itinerary in winter?
Yes, with warm clothing. Seoul and Busan are below freezing at night from December to February, but skies are clear and attractions stay open. Nami Island is beautiful under snow, and you can add a ski day at Vivaldi Park or Yongpyong. Busan is a few degrees warmer than Seoul and rarely sees snow.
