Quick answer

September to March is the best time to visit Udaipur. The lakes are full after the monsoon, boat rides on Lake Pichola run daily, and days are 24–32 °C. December to February is cool and busy with weddings and honeymooners. Avoid April to June: it is hot and, after a weak monsoon, Pichola can shrink back from the ghats.

When is the best time to visit Udaipur?

September to March. Udaipur's appeal rests on its lakes, and they are fullest after the monsoon. From September, Pichola, Fateh Sagar and Udai Sagar are brimming, the Aravalli hills are still green, and temperatures fall into the low 30s. October to February is the classic season, with 24–29 °C days.

Month by month

September–October. Our favourite window for couples: full lakes, fewer crowds than winter and hotel rates noticeably below December's.

November–February. Peak season. Diwali (8 November in 2026) lights up the ghats, and December to February is wedding season. Lakeside palaces are booked for weddings, which can close parts of a hotel and push rates up. Nights drop to 8–10 °C; a light jacket covers it.

March–April. Warming fast. The royal Holika Dahan at City Palace and Gangaur with the Mewar Festival in early April are the highlights.

May–June. Avoid. It reaches 38–40 °C, and in years with a weak monsoon the lake pulls back from the ghats.

July–August. The monsoon is popular with weekenders from Gujarat. Hills are green, Sajjangarh disappears into cloud and streams run along the road to Ranakpur. Boat rides may pause in heavy rain, and some rooftop restaurants close their terraces, so ask before you book a lake-view dinner.

Book the sunset boat on Lake Pichola for a weekday. On Saturdays and in December, the queue at the City Palace jetty can run to an hour.

Plan the rest

Use things to do in Udaipur and where to stay in Udaipur, where a lake-view room is the main cost decision. Udaipur is usually the last stop on a Rajasthan circuit after Jaisalmer and Jodhpur, and Ahmedabad is about five hours away by road if you want to add Gujarat.

Frequently asked questions

When are Udaipur's lakes full?
After a normal monsoon, the lakes fill from August and stay full through winter, so September to February is when Lake Pichola looks its best. In years with weak rain, levels can drop noticeably by April and May, and some ghats lose their waterline. Local news reports lake levels if you want to check before booking a lake-view room.
Is Udaipur good in the monsoon?
Yes, for a short trip. July and August bring green hills, 29–31 °C days, misty views from Sajjangarh and lower hotel rates. Expect humidity and some boat-ride cancellations in heavy rain. It is a popular weekend break from Gujarat, so book Friday and Saturday nights early.
Which month is best for a honeymoon in Udaipur?
October, November and February are the best honeymoon months: comfortable weather, full lakes and clear sunsets. December and January are equally pleasant but in the thick of wedding season, so lake-view rooms cost the most and some palace hotels are taken over by wedding parties. September is the value pick if you don't mind occasional showers.
When is the Mewar Festival?
The Mewar Festival is held with Gangaur, about 18 days after Holi, so it falls in early April in 2027. Women carry decorated Gangaur idols to Gangaur Ghat, there is a boat procession on Lake Pichola and cultural programmes in the evening. Rajasthan Tourism publishes the final programme a few weeks ahead.
