Quick answer

Spend day one at City Palace and Jagdish Temple, then take a sunset boat on Lake Pichola and see the Bagore ki Haveli dance show. Day two covers Saheliyon ki Bari, Fateh Sagar and sunset at Sajjangarh. Day three is a day trip to Kumbhalgarh and the Ranakpur Jain temple. Mid-range land costs start around ₹14,000 per person.

The route

  1. City Palace
  2. Lake Pichola
  3. Fateh Sagar
  4. Sajjangarh
  5. Kumbhalgarh
  6. Ranakpur

Day-by-day plan

  1. 1

    Day 1

    City Palace and Lake Pichola

    • Morning: Arrive at Udaipur's Maharana Pratap Airport, about 22 km and 40 minutes from the old city, and check in.

    • Afternoon: City Palace museum for 2–3 hours, then Jagdish Temple a short walk up the street.

    • Evening: Sunset boat on Lake Pichola from the City Palace jetty, then the Bagore ki Haveli dance show at about 7 pm.

Stay: Lal Ghat or Hanuman Ghat, in a lake-view room

Buy the sunset boat ticket when you visit City Palace, as it sells out in season.

  2. 2

    Day 2

    Gardens, Fateh Sagar and Sajjangarh

    • Morning: Saheliyon ki Bari and a walk along Fateh Sagar, then the Vintage and Classic Car Museum.

    • Afternoon: A cooking class in the old city, or shopping around Hathi Pol and Bada Bazaar.

    • Evening: Sunset at Sajjangarh (Monsoon Palace), then dinner at Ambrai Ghat facing City Palace.

    Stay: Same hotel

Go up to Sajjangarh an hour before sunset; the road down is congested afterwards.

  3. 3

    Day 3

    Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur

    • Morning: Leave by 8 am for Kumbhalgarh, about 2–2.5 hours, and walk a stretch of its 36 km wall and the Badal Mahal.

    • Afternoon: Drive about 1.5 hours to Ranakpur; the Jain temple opens to non-Jain visitors from around noon. Thali lunch nearby.

    • Evening: Back in Udaipur by about 7–8 pm, or continue to Jodhpur, about three hours away.

Leather items aren't allowed at Ranakpur, and shoulders and knees must be covered.

How this Udaipur plan works

Udaipur is best taken slowly, so this plan keeps the city to two unhurried days built around the lakes at sunset, and spends the third on the region's two great sights: Kumbhalgarh, with one of the longest fort walls in the world, and the marble Jain temple at Ranakpur. If you are continuing to Jodhpur, the day trip doubles as your transfer.

What the cost covers

The mid-range figure of about ₹14,000 per person assumes two nights in a lake-view 4-star or heritage hotel on twin sharing, airport transfers, a private car for day two and the full-day trip, the Pichola boat, and entry fees for City Palace, Kumbhalgarh and the shows. It excludes flights, meals and the cooking class.

Swap options

  • Chittorgarh instead of Kumbhalgarh: about 115 km east, two hours each way; better for history lovers.
  • Honeymooners: replace day three with a spa afternoon and a private dinner on the lake.
  • Monsoon: the boat may pause in heavy rain, but Sajjangarh in cloud is worth the drive.

A 'lake view' can be a sliver. Ask the hotel for a photo from the actual room you are booking.

Plan the rest

Frequently asked questions

Is three days enough for Udaipur?
Yes. Two days covers City Palace, the lake, the gardens and Sajjangarh at a relaxed pace, and the third allows a day trip to Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur or Chittorgarh. Honeymooners often add a fourth night simply to enjoy the hotel and the lake.
Can I swap the day trip for Chittorgarh?
Yes. Chittorgarh is about 115 km east, roughly two hours each way, and needs three to four hours on site for the Vijay Stambha, Rana Kumbha's palace and Padmini's palace. Hire a guide at the gate. It suits history lovers, while Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur suit those who prefer architecture and scenery.
Is this Udaipur itinerary good for a honeymoon?
It is a good base. Choose a lake-view room on Lal Ghat or Hanuman Ghat, or one of the lakeside palace hotels, and keep evenings for the sunset boat, Ambrai Ghat and rooftop dinners. If you'd rather not spend a day in the car, replace the day trip with a spa afternoon and a private boat on the lake.
