Quick answer

Spend two days in Delhi, drive to Agra on day three for Agra Fort and a Mehtab Bagh sunset, see the Taj at sunrise on day four before Fatehpur Sikri and the drive to Jaipur, then spend day five on Jaipur's forts and palaces and return to Delhi on day six. Mid-range land costs start around ₹28,000 per person.

Day-by-day plan

  1. 1

    Day 1

    Arrive in Delhi

    • Morning: Arrive and check in.

The Red Fort is closed on Mondays; if day two is a Monday, swap the two Delhi days.

  3. 3

    Day 3

    Delhi to Agra

    • Morning: Drive the Yamuna Expressway, about 3.5–4 hours, stopping at Sikandra, or take an early express train.

    • Afternoon: City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal.

  6. 6

Leave at least six hours between leaving Jaipur and an international departure from Delhi.

How this Golden Triangle plan works

Six days is the comfortable length for the circuit. It gives Delhi two full days, puts you in Agra overnight so you can see the Taj at sunrise rather than in the midday crush, and uses the Agra-to-Jaipur drive to take in Fatehpur Sikri. Jaipur gets a full day plus a morning, and the loop closes back in Delhi, which has the most international flights.

What the cost covers

The mid-range figure of about ₹28,000 per person assumes five nights in 4-star hotels on twin sharing with breakfast, an air-conditioned sedan with driver for six days, local guides in Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, and entry fees including the Taj mausoleum ticket. It excludes flights, lunches and dinners. See the Golden Triangle trip cost for budget and luxury versions.

Before you fix dates

Two closures shape the route. The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays, so day four must not be a Friday. The Red Fort, Akshardham and the Lotus Temple close on Mondays. In December and January, fog can delay trains and blur the Taj sunrise; the best time to visit the Golden Triangle page covers when to go.

A private car beats trains for families on this route: door-to-door transfers, Sikandra, Fatehpur Sikri and Abhaneri on the way, and no station queues with luggage.

Frequently asked questions

Is six days enough for the Golden Triangle?
Yes, for a first visit. Six days gives Delhi two days, Agra an overnight stay with a sunrise Taj visit, and Jaipur a full day plus a morning. Five days is possible but rushed. With eight days you can add Ranthambore or Varanasi, both popular extensions.
Is a train or car better for the Golden Triangle?
For families and senior citizens, a car with driver is easier: door-to-door transfers, flexible stops at Fatehpur Sikri and Abhaneri, and no luggage on platforms. Trains are faster between Delhi and Agra and cheaper for solo travellers or couples, but you will still need local cabs in each city. Many travellers mix the two.
Can I add Varanasi or Ranthambore to this route?
Yes. Ranthambore is about three hours from Jaipur and adds two nights for tiger safaris before returning to Delhi. Varanasi is best added by flying from Delhi or Agra for two or three nights at the end. Both extensions turn the trip into eight or nine days.
