How to spend less without ruining the trip
- Travel in October, February or March for good weather without holiday-week hotel rates.
- Stay on Fatehabad Road in Agra rather than in a Taj-view luxury room; the sunrise visit gives you the view anyway.
- Book ASI tickets online and buy Jaipur's composite ticket.
- Agree with your driver at the start that there will be no shopping stops; commissions on marble, carpets and jewellery inflate prices.
- Fly into Delhi and out of Jaipur if fares line up, to save the last day's drive.
- For two adults, a train from Delhi to Agra with a car only from Agra onwards can trim transport costs.
How much does a Golden Triangle trip cost?
For five nights, two in Delhi, one in Agra and two in Jaipur, plan on about ₹17,000 per person on a budget, ₹28,000 mid-range and ₹1.15 lakh or more in luxury hotels. These are land-only starting figures on twin sharing with a private car for six days, for travel in the 2026–27 winter outside Christmas-New Year. Flights to Delhi are extra.
Where the money goes
Hotels make up about half of a mid-range budget. A good 3-star costs ₹3,000–4,500 a night for a double in Delhi and a little less in Agra and Jaipur; 4-star hotels ₹6,000–8,000; and the top end, Agra's Taj-view rooms and Jaipur's palace hotels, from about ₹35,000 to over ₹80,000 a night in season.
The car is the next biggest cost. The loop is about 750 km over six days, including city sightseeing. An air-conditioned sedan with driver, tolls, parking and driver allowance costs roughly ₹17,000–22,000 for the trip, or ₹8,500–11,000 each for two people. Four people in an SUV pay less each.
Entry fees are modest for Indians: ₹250 for the Taj including the mausoleum, about ₹35–50 for most ASI monuments, and a few hundred rupees each for Jaipur's composite ticket and City Palace.
Car or train?
| Option | Approximate transport cost for two | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Private car, six days | ₹17,000–22,000 | Families, elders, flexible stops |
| Trains plus local cabs | ₹12,000–16,000 | Couples and solo travellers |
| Train to Agra, car onwards | ₹14,000–18,000 | A balance of speed and comfort |
For two people the gap is smaller than most expect, because you still need cabs in each city. For three or four, the car is clearly better value.
A quote that looks cheap may leave out the Taj mausoleum ticket, guides or the driver's night allowance. Ask for a line-by-line inclusion list.
