Quick answer
A 10-night Char Dham Yatra from Haridwar costs from about ₹21,000 per person on a budget, ₹34,000 mid-range and ₹72,000 premium, twin sharing, land only. The biggest variables are the car, hotel standard and how you reach Kedarnath. Ponies cost several thousand rupees extra, and a Kedarnath helicopter round trip about ₹6,000–12,500 plus GST.

How to spend less without ruining the trip
- Travel in the second half of September or in October, when hotel rates are lower than in May and June.
- Share an Innova between four to six people. The car is the biggest single cost after hotels.
- Book the Kedarnath helicopter only on IRCTC HeliYatra at official fares. Touts and fake sites charge several times more or take money for nothing.
- Hire ponies and palkis only at official counters with a prepaid slip. Rates are fixed and posted.
- From Delhi, take a train to Haridwar rather than hiring a car from Delhi. It saves two days of car hire.
- Carry dry fruit, biscuits and electrolyte sachets from the plains. Prices go up with every kilometre of altitude.
How much does a Char Dham Yatra cost?
From about ₹21,000 per person on a budget, ₹34,000 mid-range and ₹72,000 premium, for 10 nights from Haridwar, twin sharing and land only. Flights or trains to Haridwar or Dehradun are extra.
| Tier | From (per person) | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | ₹21,000 | Basic hotels, shared tempo traveller |
| Mid-range | ₹34,000 | 2- to 3-star hotels, private car |
| Premium | ₹72,000 | Best stays on the route, Innova Crysta, Kedarnath helicopter |
We price the yatra over 10 nights rather than the usual nine because we add one buffer night. A landslide or a grounded helicopter can cost you a day, and a spare night keeps the plan intact. The day-by-day route is in our 10-day Char Dham itinerary.
What changes the cost the most?
- The car. A private sedan or Innova for 10–11 days is the largest single item. Two people pay roughly double per person compared with four.
- The hotel standard. Below Uttarkashi and Guptkashi you can choose. At Kedarnath and Badrinath, rooms are basic, expensive and limited, especially in May and June.
- How you reach Kedarnath. Walking is free. A pony both ways adds roughly ₹6,000–9,000, a palki much more, and a helicopter round trip about ₹6,000–12,500 plus GST.
- When you travel. May and June are peak; late September and October are usually 10–20% cheaper for hotels.
Hidden costs to plan for
Ponies at Yamunotri, special pujas, porters for luggage, warm clothes, and tips for drivers and helpers all add up. Budget another ₹3,000–8,000 per person if you plan to use ponies at both trek shrines. Medical kits and rain gear are cheaper bought at home.
Is a helicopter worth it?
For senior citizens, those with knee or heart problems, or anyone short of time, yes. It turns a two-day trek into a half-day trip. Flights depend on weather and are often delayed. Book only on IRCTC HeliYatra after completing your Char Dham registration. Fake websites selling Kedarnath tickets are a well-known scam.
How to get to Haridwar
Most pilgrims from Delhi take a train to Haridwar (about 4.5–5 hours). From Mumbai, Bengaluru or Kolkata, fly to Dehradun's Jolly Grant airport, about 35 km from Haridwar, and start the next morning. See flights for options.
Buy travel insurance that covers trip delays and medical evacuation. Monsoon shoulder months bring the most disruption.
