How to spend less without ruining the trip
- Take the HRTC Volvo from Delhi; it is usually cheaper than private operators and runs to schedule.
- Travel midweek; weekend hotel rates in May, June and December can be 30–50% higher.
- Skip Rohtang unless snow is essential. The Atal Tunnel to Sissu needs no permit and often has snow.
- Stay in Old Manali or Vashisht guesthouses for character at half the price of Mall Road hotels.
- Rent snow gear only on a snow day, and check boots for leaks before paying.
- Go in March, October or November for off-season rates and clear weather.
How much does a Manali trip cost?
For four nights, most travellers from Delhi spend ₹11,000–25,000 per person, twin sharing, including road travel from Delhi. Manali is one of the cheapest Himalayan trips because you can reach it by overnight bus and save two hotel nights.
| Tier | Land cost from | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | ₹11,000 | Volvo, 2★–3★ hotel, shared taxi day |
| Mid-range | ₹19,000 | Premium Volvo, 3★–4★ hotel, private taxi for 3 days |
| Luxury | ₹42,000 | 5★ resort, private Innova from Delhi |
The tiers follow our 5-day Manali plan in itineraries: four hotel nights, with Solang and Sissu, Vashisht and Naggar.
Why are local taxis a separate cost?
Manali's taxi unions control sightseeing to Solang, the Atal Tunnel and Rohtang. Cars from Delhi or Chandigarh usually cannot do these runs, so even if you drive up, you hire a local taxi. Expect about ₹3,500–5,000 per vehicle for a Solang, Atal Tunnel and Sissu day.
What do activities cost?
- Paragliding at Solang: about ₹1,500–3,500, depending on flight length.
- Solang ropeway: about ₹600–1,000.
- Rafting near Kullu: about ₹800–1,500 in season.
- Rohtang Pass: an online permit of about ₹550 per vehicle, plus a local taxi for the day. Capped daily and open only in summer.
When is Manali cheapest?
March, October and November give the best value: good weather, fewer people and lower hotel rates. May, June and Christmas–New Year are the dearest. July and August are cheap but risky because of monsoon landslides. See the best time to visit Manali.
Should you fly?
Bhuntar (Kullu) airport is about 50 km away, but flights are few, pricey and often cancelled in bad weather. From Mumbai or Bengaluru, fly to Chandigarh and drive 7–8 hours, or take the overnight Volvo from Chandigarh.
On busy weekends, the Solang road can take an hour or more. Leave Manali by 8 am, and your taxi day will cover far more.
