Quick answer

A 6-night Ladakh trip costs from about ₹28,000 per person on a budget, ₹42,000 mid-range and ₹88,000 for luxury, land-only and twin sharing, covering hotels, camps, a vehicle and permits. Return flights to Leh add ₹10,000–20,000 from Delhi in season. The vehicle is the biggest variable: sharing an SUV with another couple cuts costs sharply.

How to spend less without ruining the trip

  • Travel in late May or September; hotels and flights cost less than in June and July and all roads are open.
  • Share an SUV with another couple or family; the vehicle is the largest cost after hotels.
  • Book Delhi–Leh flights two to three months ahead for June; late fares can pass ₹25,000 return.
  • Stay in family-run guesthouses in Changspa or Sankar; they cost far less than hotels and often include home-cooked dinners.
  • Pay environment fees online yourself rather than through an agent's markup.
  • One night at Pangong does not need a luxury camp; a standard camp with good bedding is warm enough.

How much does a Ladakh trip cost?

For six nights, most Indian travellers spend ₹28,000–50,000 per person on the ground, twin sharing, before flights. Ladakh costs more than Kashmir or Himachal for three reasons: a short season, taxi union rates that apply to all sightseeing, and flights into a single small airport.

TierLand cost fromWhat you get
Budget₹28,000Guesthouses, standard camps, shared SUV
Mid-range₹42,0003★ hotels, deluxe camps, private SUV for two
Luxury₹88,000Top hotels, luxury camps, Innova Crysta

All tiers follow the plan in our 7-day Ladakh itinerary: three nights in Leh, one in Nubra, one at Pangong and a last night in Leh.

Why is the vehicle so expensive?

Sightseeing in Ladakh runs on fixed taxi union rates, and outside-registered rental cars are restricted from tourist runs. A private SUV for the Leh–Nubra–Pangong–Leh loop plus local days typically costs ₹36,000–44,000 per vehicle for six days. Split between two, that is the biggest line on a mid-range budget; split between four, it halves.

What else should you budget for?

  • Environment and wildlife fees: roughly ₹500–700 per person for a week, paid online through the LAHDC Leh portal.
  • Monastery entries: small fees of about ₹50–150 each.
  • Altitude kit: water, ORS, a small oxygen can and any medicines your doctor advises.

Is driving in cheaper than flying?

On paper, yes, if four people share a car from Manali or Srinagar. In practice it adds four days, two nights of hotels and fuel, and the passes are hard on first-timers. Most families fly in and rest for two days in Leh.

When is Ladakh cheapest?

May and late September offer the best value for a normal trip, with open roads and lower prices. June and July are the dearest. From November to March hotels discount heavily, but many close and the cold limits what you can do. See the best time to visit Ladakh.

Prepaid SIMs from other states have long been blocked in Ladakh, as in Jammu and Kashmir. Use a postpaid connection, and expect no signal at Pangong except on some networks.

Compare hotel areas on where to stay in Ladakh, plan your days with things to do in Ladakh, and consider travel insurance that covers high-altitude evacuation.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Ladakh more expensive than Kashmir or Himachal?
Ladakh's season is short, so hotels and camps price for about five busy months. Sightseeing must use local taxi union vehicles at fixed rates, and almost everyone flies in to a single small airport, where fares spike in June. Food and fuel also cost more because supplies come in by road over high passes.
Is ₹50,000 enough for a Ladakh trip including flights?
For six nights, yes, on a budget or lower mid-range plan: about ₹28,000–35,000 for land with a shared vehicle, ₹10,000–14,000 for Delhi–Leh flights booked early, and ₹4,000–6,000 for meals and extras. For a private SUV, 3-star hotels and June travel, plan for ₹60,000 or more per person.
Is it cheaper to go to Ladakh by road?
Only if four or more people share a vehicle and you have extra days. A road trip from Manali or Srinagar adds two days each way, with hotel nights at Jispa, Sarchu or Kargil and higher fuel costs. For two people with a week, flying in and out is usually cheaper and easier on the body.
Can I hire a bike in Leh to save money?
Yes. Local operators rent motorcycles in Leh for roughly ₹1,200–2,500 a day plus fuel, which is cheaper than a private SUV for a solo traveller or a couple. Only experienced riders should take bikes over Khardung La and Chang La, and nobody should ride high passes before acclimatising for two days.
Are ATMs and card payments available in Ladakh?
Leh has several ATMs, and most hotels, larger shops and restaurants accept cards and UPI when the network is up. In Nubra and at Pangong, cash is often the only option and ATMs are scarce or empty. Carry ₹8,000–12,000 in cash per person for camps, tips, snacks and small purchases.
