How to spend less without ruining the trip
- Stay in a bhunga homestay in Hodka or Dhordo instead of Tent City; you are still close to the White Rann and meals are often included.
- Avoid full-moon weekends and Christmas week at the Rann, when Tent City prices are at their highest.
- Book Gir permits yourself on the official portal and fill the jeep: up to six people share one permit.
- Fly into Ahmedabad and out of Rajkot so you don't pay for a day's drive back.
- Skip Diwali week, when Gujarat's own holiday crowds push up prices across Kutch and Saurashtra.
- Eat thalis. Unlimited Gujarati thalis at ₹250–600 beat most hotel buffets on taste and price.
How much does a Gujarat trip cost?
For a six-night trip covering Ahmedabad, Bhuj and the White Rann, Gir and Somnath, plan on about ₹24,000 per person on a budget, ₹45,000 mid-range and ₹1 lakh or more at the top end. These are land-only starting prices for the 2026–27 winter season on twin sharing, with a private car throughout. Flights to Ahmedabad are extra.
The Rann is the swing factor
Where you sleep near the White Rann moves the total more than anything else. Rann Utsav's Tent City at Dhordo, scheduled from 1 November 2026 to 7 March 2027, sells packages that bundle the tent, all meals, cultural programmes and local sightseeing. A premium tent typically works out to about ₹8,000–12,000 per person a night on twin sharing, with top-category suites far higher, and full-moon dates and the Christmas-New Year week priced above that.
The alternatives are a bhunga homestay in Hodka or Dhordo village at roughly ₹3,000–6,000 a room with meals, or a hotel in Bhuj, about 85 km away, at ₹2,500–5,000. Bhuj is cheapest but means a long drive for every Rann visit.
Gir and the rest
A Gir jungle-trail safari is booked by jeep, which takes up to six people. Expect about ₹5,000–8,000 for the jeep including permit, guide and vehicle, more on weekends and holidays. Devalia Safari Park is far cheaper, at a few hundred rupees per person by bus. Other entry fees are low: most ASI monuments charge Indians ₹25–50, and the Statue of Unity costs about ₹150–400 depending on viewing-gallery access.
Car costs
Distances are long, about 1,500 km over the week, so the car matters. An air-conditioned sedan with driver costs roughly ₹12–14 per km, an Innova-class SUV about ₹17–20, plus tolls, parking and driver allowance. For two people sharing an SUV, that is about ₹13,000–16,000 each.
Book Gir permits and Tent City first. Both sell out weeks ahead for December and January, and the rest of the trip is easy to fit around them.
