How to spend less without ruining the trip

  • Travel between mid-January and March, avoiding the Christmas–New Year peak and the Puja holidays.
  • Book ferries as soon as flights are fixed; premium seats sell out and late options cost more.
  • Skip Neil or Baratang if the budget is tight; each adds ferry or tour costs.
  • Spend on one good try dive with a reputable centre rather than several short add-ons like jet-ski rides.
  • Eat at local restaurants in Aberdeen Bazaar and Havelock's market; resort dinners cost two to three times as much.
  • If direct fares from your city are high, compare routings via Chennai or Kolkata.

How much does a 5-night Andaman trip cost?

For two people sharing, the land part of a five-night trip to Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair), Swaraj Dweep (Havelock) and Shaheed Dweep (Neil) costs from about ₹23,000 to ₹95,000 per person, depending on hotels and ferry class. Flights are extra and make up a large share of the total. The tiers above are starting prices for November to April, excluding the late-December peak.

Why do the Andamans cost more than mainland beaches?

Three reasons. Flights are longer and costlier than to Goa or Kerala. Every move between islands needs a ferry, and private catamarans charge roughly ₹1,200–2,800 per person per leg. And hotels, especially on Havelock, bring much of their food and supplies from the mainland, which pushes up room and restaurant prices.

What does a day cost on the ground?

ItemTypical cost
Thali or fish curry meal, local restaurant₹200–400
Seafood dinner for two, mid-range₹2,000–4,000
Shared boat to Elephant Beach₹1,000–1,500 per person
Try dive₹3,500–6,500
Sea walk₹3,500–4,500
Taxi for half-day sightseeing₹1,500–2,500

How do ferries affect the budget?

A typical three-leg circuit, from Sri Vijaya Puram to Havelock, Havelock to Neil and Neil back, costs about ₹4,500–7,500 per person by private catamaran, depending on class. Government ships are much cheaper, but seats are limited and hard to book from outside the islands, so most travellers don't count on them.

Where is it worth spending more?

On Havelock. A beachfront or near-beach resort around Radhanagar or Vijaynagar beach makes a real difference to the trip, while in Sri Vijaya Puram a clean 3★ hotel is fine, since you'll be out sightseeing. Premium ferry classes, with better seats and fewer passengers, are worth it for older travellers.

Compare package quotes line by line. Differences usually come from ferry class, whether hotels are on the beach or inland, and whether the Ross, North Bay and Elephant Beach boat fees are included.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an Andaman honeymoon cost?
A five-night Andaman honeymoon with 4★ hotels, a beachfront resort on Havelock, premium ferries and private transfers typically starts around ₹40,000–55,000 per person, excluding flights. Top resorts on Havelock can take the land cost past ₹1 lakh per person. Add ₹15,000–25,000 each for return flights from most metros.
Are the Andamans cheaper than the Maldives?
Usually, yes. A mid-range five-night Andaman trip with flights costs roughly ₹50,000–65,000 per person, while three nights in the Maldives with flights starts around ₹70,000. The Maldives offers private-island resorts and water villas; the Andamans offers more variety, history and domestic convenience with no passport or forex needed.
What is the cheapest month to visit the Andamans?
June to September is cheapest, with hotel rates often 30–50% lower, but it's the monsoon, with rough seas and ferry cancellations. For good weather at better prices, try late January to March on weekdays, or the first half of November. Avoid late December and the October Puja holidays.
How much do Andaman ferries cost?
Private catamarans such as Makruzz, Nautika, Green Ocean and ITT Majestic cost roughly ₹1,200–2,800 per person per leg, depending on class, route and season. A full circuit of Sri Vijaya Puram, Havelock, Neil and back costs about ₹4,500–7,500. Government ships cost a few hundred rupees but are hard to book in advance.
Do I need cash in the Andamans?
Carry some. UPI and cards work in most hotels and many restaurants, but mobile data can be patchy on Havelock and Neil, and ATMs there sometimes run out on busy days. Keep ₹5,000–8,000 per person in cash for boat operators, small eateries, tips and auto rides.
