Quick answer

Split your Andaman stay across three islands: one or two nights in Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair) near Aberdeen Bazaar or Corbyn's Cove, two or three on Swaraj Dweep (Havelock) near Govind Nagar or Radhanagar beach, and one on Shaheed Dweep (Neil) near Bharatpur or Laxmanpur. Havelock is where it pays to spend more on your room.

The best areas to stay in Andaman Islands

Sri Vijaya Puram: Aberdeen Bazaar

₹

Best for: Convenience, budget, ferry days

The town centre near the Cellular Jail, markets, restaurants and the ferry jetties; handy before early sailings.

Busy and built-up, without beaches; rooms are functional rather than scenic.

Doubles from ₹2,500 a night

Sri Vijaya Puram: Corbyn's Cove

₹₹

Best for: Sea views, families

A small beach about 7 km from town with sea-facing hotels, 15–20 minutes from the airport and jetties.

Few restaurants nearby, and the beach is fine for a dip but no match for Havelock.

Doubles from ₹5,000 a night

Havelock: Govind Nagar and Vijaynagar

₹₹

Best for: Most visitors, couples, divers

The east-coast strip from Beach No. 2 to No. 5 has most of the island's resorts, dive centres and restaurants, a few minutes from the jetty.

These beaches are tidal and better for walking than swimming; Radhanagar is about a 20-minute drive.

Doubles from ₹5,000 a night

Havelock: Radhanagar area

₹₹₹

Best for: Honeymooners, luxury

A handful of resorts set in forest near Beach No. 7, Havelock's finest beach, a short walk from the sand.

Few options and high prices, with quiet evenings and limited dining outside the resorts.

Doubles from ₹12,000 a night

Neil: Bharatpur, Sitapur and Laxmanpur

₹₹

Best for: Quiet stays, one-night stopovers

Small resorts near Bharatpur's lagoon beach and the jetty, or near Laxmanpur's sunset beach, on an island you can cycle around.

Limited choice, simpler facilities, and occasionally patchy power and mobile signal.

Doubles from ₹4,000 a night

₹ budget · ₹₹ mid-range · ₹₹₹ premium. Nightly rates are starting prices for a double room outside peak dates.

How should you split your nights?

For a five-night trip, the common split is two nights in Sri Vijaya Puram, two on Havelock and one on Neil. If you'd rather have more beach time, cut Sri Vijaya Puram to one night, arriving early enough for the Cellular Jail, and give Havelock three.

IslandNightsWhy stay
Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair)1–2Cellular Jail, Ross Island, flights
Swaraj Dweep (Havelock)2–3Radhanagar, diving, best resorts
Shaheed Dweep (Neil)1Natural Bridge, quiet beaches

Where should you spend more?

On Havelock. That's where you'll spend most of your waking hours by the sea, and a beachfront resort near Radhanagar or a good property on the east coast makes the biggest difference. In Sri Vijaya Puram, a clean 3★ hotel near Aberdeen Bazaar is fine, since you'll be out sightseeing and catching ferries.

What should you check before booking?

  • Distance to the jetty: it matters for early-morning ferries.
  • Power and AC: the islands rely heavily on diesel generators; good hotels have full backup.
  • Wi-Fi: improving, but still patchy on Havelock and Neil.
  • Peak season: late December to early January sells out two to three months ahead.

Book hotels and ferries together. A fixed ferry time tells you when you'll actually arrive, so you don't pay for an extra night or wait hours for check-in.

Frequently asked questions

Should I stay longer on Havelock or Neil?
Havelock, for most travellers. It has Radhanagar Beach, the best snorkelling and diving, and the widest choice of resorts and restaurants, so two or three nights there is ideal. Neil is smaller and quieter, and one night is usually enough to see the Natural Bridge, Bharatpur and a Laxmanpur sunset.
How many nights in Port Blair are enough?
One to two nights in Sri Vijaya Puram is enough. One night covers the Cellular Jail and its evening show if you arrive by early afternoon. A second night adds Ross Island and North Bay. Many travellers also keep a final night here before their flight in the monsoon months, when ferries are less reliable.
Are there beach resorts in Port Blair?
A few, mostly at Corbyn's Cove, about 7 km from town, and some sea-view hotels along the coast road. The beaches near Sri Vijaya Puram are pleasant for a short swim but don't compare with Havelock's. Most travellers choose a convenient town hotel here and save the beach resort for Havelock.
