Quick answer

A 3-night Goa trip costs from about ₹10,000 per person on a budget, ₹18,000 mid-range and ₹45,000 for luxury, twin sharing, excluding flights. How to spend less without ruining the trip

  • Travel in the first half of October or the last week of March; hotel rates are often 30–40% below the winter peak.
  • Book Christmas–New Year stays by September. Last-minute rates are often double, with compulsory gala dinners.
  • Compare fares into both Mopa and Dabolim; one is often noticeably cheaper on the same day.
  • Rent a scooter for beach days and hire a car only for the sightseeing day.
  • Eat at local fish-thali places for lunch: ₹200–400 instead of ₹1,000 or more at beach clubs.
  • Check whether quoted hotel rates include GST and breakfast before comparing them.

How much does a 3-night Goa trip cost?

For two people sharing a room, plan on roughly ₹10,000–45,000 each for the land part of a three-night trip, depending on hotel class and season, plus flights. The tiers above are starting prices for November to February, outside the Christmas–New Year week.

What drives the cost?

Season is the biggest factor. Hotel rates in late December are commonly two to three times the November rate, and many hotels insist on minimum stays and compulsory New Year's Eve dinners. July to September is the cheapest period, with 4★ and 5★ resorts often 40–50% lower, though the sea is off-limits for swimming.

Location comes next. North Goa's Calangute–Baga belt has the most budget rooms; Candolim and the far-north beaches cost a little more; South Goa's resorts are generally the priciest but quietest.

Getting around is the hidden cost. Goa's taxis are expensive by Indian standards, and app cabs are limited. A full-day car with driver costs about ₹2,500–3,500, and a one-way airport transfer ₹1,500–2,500, depending on the airport and beach. Scooters, at ₹400–600 a day, are the cheapest option.

What does a typical day cost on the ground?

ItemTypical cost
Shack lunch for two₹800–1,500
Dinner for two, mid-range restaurant₹1,500–3,000
Fish thali at a local place₹200–400
Scooter for a day₹400–600
Full-day car with driver₹2,500–3,500
Beer at a beach shack₹150–250

Is a package cheaper than booking yourself?

Often, for mid-range and family trips. Agents get contracted hotel rates and bundle transfers, which can save the cost of a couple of taxi rides. For budget travellers using scooters and guesthouses, booking independently is usually cheaper. Families of four can save by booking a family room or two connecting rooms, and many resorts let young children stay free when sharing with parents.

Check what a quoted hotel rate includes. Many online prices exclude GST (5% on rooms up to ₹7,500 a night, 18% above) and breakfast, which can change the comparison.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest way to do Goa?
Travel between July and September or in early October, fly midweek, stay in a guesthouse or 3★ hotel in Calangute, Baga or Arambol, rent a scooter and eat at local fish-thali places. Done this way, three nights can cost ₹7,000–9,000 per person on the ground. The trade-off in monsoon months is that swimming in the sea isn't safe.
How much does Goa cost for New Year?
Expect to pay two to three times normal rates from about 24 December to 1 January. A 4★ room that costs ₹7,000 in November can cost ₹15,000–25,000 a night, often with a compulsory gala dinner and a three-night minimum. Flights from Delhi and Mumbai also peak. Book by September to keep costs manageable.
Is Goa cheaper in the monsoon?
Yes, significantly. From July to September, many 4★ and 5★ resorts cut rates by 40–50%, and flights are at their cheapest. It's a good time for a pool-and-food break. But beach shacks close, water sports stop and swimming in the sea is unsafe, so it isn't a beach holiday in the usual sense.
How much spending money do I need per day in Goa?
Budget about ₹2,500–4,000 per person a day, excluding your hotel, for meals at shacks and mid-range restaurants, a scooter or share of a taxi, and an activity or entry fee. Add more for beach clubs, alcohol and water sports. Backpackers eating locally and riding scooters can manage on ₹1,200–1,800.
Is North Goa or South Goa cheaper?
North Goa is generally cheaper, with far more guesthouses and 3★ hotels around Calangute, Baga and Anjuna, plus cheaper food and scooter hire. South Goa leans towards larger resorts and costs more, and you'll spend more on taxis because sights are further apart. South Goa's mid-range beach resorts can be good value outside peak weeks.
