How many days do you need for Gujarat?
Gujarat is big, and its three headline experiences, the Rann of Kutch, Gir's lions and the Statue of Unity, sit in three different corners of the state, each 300–400 km from the others. A week covers Ahmedabad, Kutch and Gir with Somnath. Add two or three days for the Statue of Unity, or swap it in for Gir if wildlife isn't a priority.
Choosing your corners
- Kutch (2–3 nights): Bhuj, the White Rann at Dhordo, Kalo Dungar and the craft villages; Dholavira if you have another day.
- Saurashtra (2–3 nights): Gir safaris, Somnath, and Junagadh's Girnar ropeway or Dwarka.
- Central (1–2 nights): Ahmedabad's old city, Adalaj stepwell, and Rani ki Vav with Modhera.
- East (1 night): the Statue of Unity at Ekta Nagar, about 90 km from Vadodara.
Practical notes
Gujarat is a dry state, though visitors can get temporary liquor permits at licensed hotel shops. Vegetarian and Jain food is everywhere, often milder and slightly sweet. Roads are good but distances are long: Bhuj to Sasan Gir takes roughly seven to eight hours. Flying into Bhuj and out of Rajkot saves a day of backtracking.
Gir permits and Rann Utsav tents sell out first. Lock those two in before you book anything else.
Plan the rest
Check the best time to visit Gujarat for Rann and Gir seasons, budget with the Gujarat trip cost, and eat your way through the Gujarati food guide. Udaipur is about five hours from Ahmedabad if you want a combined trip.
