Quick answer
The best time to visit Georgia is May to June and September to October. Tbilisi is 20–28°C, the mountain road to Kazbegi is fully open and Kakheti is either green or mid-harvest. July and August suit the mountains but Tbilisi gets hot. December to March is ski season at Gudauri, when snow can briefly close the Kazbegi road.

Roughly December to April

When is the best time to visit Georgia?
May–June and September–October. Tbilisi is 20–28°C, the Georgian Military Highway to Kazbegi is fully open, and the Kakheti wine region is either green or in the middle of the harvest. July and August are fine in the mountains but hot in the capital. December to March is for skiing at Gudauri.
The table shows Tbilisi. Stepantsminda (Kazbegi, about 1,750 m) and Gudauri (about 2,200 m) run 8–12°C cooler, and the Jvari pass between them can close for hours or days after heavy snow.
Georgia season by season
Spring: March to May
March is still wintry in the mountains. April brings blossom to Kakheti and a busy Orthodox Easter weekend. May is green and lovely, though it is also the wettest month, usually as short afternoon showers rather than all-day rain.
Summer: June to August
June is the pick of summer: long evenings, flowering meadows below Mount Kazbek, and Tbilisi still under 30°C. July and August push the capital past 30°C, so spend more nights in Kazbegi or add Batumi on the Black Sea, where it is beach season.
Autumn: September to November
The best time for food and wine. Rtveli, the grape harvest, runs from mid-September to mid-October, and Tbilisoba fills the old town with stalls in late October. November is crisp and quiet, with the first snow on the passes.
Winter: December to February
Tbilisi is cold but dry and cheap. Gudauri usually opens its lifts in December, and the snow is reliable through February. The road to Kazbegi stays in use but can close after storms, so keep a buffer day.
Timing around Indian holidays
- May–June school holidays: the classic Georgia window; book IndiGo seats and Kazbegi rooms early.
- Diwali (8 November 2026): cool and quiet, with a chance of early snow on the high road.
- Christmas–New Year: festive Tbilisi plus fresh snow at Gudauri.
Check your Georgia visa route first. Many Indian travellers qualify for an e-visa, and some valid US, UK or Schengen visa holders can enter without one.
