How to spend less without ruining the trip

  • If you hold a valid US, UK or Schengen visa, check whether you qualify for visa-free entry before paying for an e-visa.
  • Share a private car for Kazbegi between four to six people; it often costs little more per head than a group tour.
  • Use Bolt in Tbilisi and the metro for longer hops; old-town distances are walkable.
  • Eat at local bakeries and family restaurants; khachapuri and lobio make cheap, filling vegetarian meals.
  • Travel in May or October for lower rates than June–August, with equally good weather.

How much does a Georgia trip cost from India?

For a 5-night trip covering Tbilisi, a night in Kazbegi and a Kakheti wine day, plan on about ₹72,000 per person at mid-range, twin sharing, including return flights and the e-visa. Land-only, the same trip starts around ₹36,000. Budget versions with guesthouses and shared tours start near ₹58,000, and luxury trips with 5★ hotels and a private guide start from about ₹1.4 lakh.

Georgia is good value once you land. Hotels, food and transport cost noticeably less than in Western Europe, and Georgian food is generous and cheap.

Where does the money go?

Flights are about 40% of a mid-range budget. IndiGo flies non-stop from Delhi in about 6–7 hours. From other cities, connections via Dubai, Sharjah or Doha are common and add a few thousand rupees and several hours.

Hotels in Tbilisi's old town and Sololaki cost ₹4,500–8,000 a night for a good 3★–4★ double. A night in Stepantsminda costs similar, with rooms facing Mount Kazbek priced higher.

Transport is the next big line. A private car with driver for the Kazbegi overnight and the Kakheti day is the most comfortable way to see Georgia, and splits well between four or more people.

Extras add up: a private sulphur bath room is about ₹2,500–6,500 per hour for the room, and tandem paragliding at Gudauri about ₹8,000–11,000.

Visa and money

Many Indian travellers apply for the Georgia e-visa online, about USD 20 plus portal charges at the time of review, while some holders of valid US, UK or Schengen visas or residence permits can enter visa-free. Check the current conditions on our Georgia visa guide.

The lari is easy to use; cards and contactless work widely in Tbilisi. Carry some cash for Kazbegi and village wineries. Our foreign exchange service can set up a forex card. Overseas packages bought from an Indian operator attract TCS, adjustable against your income tax.

In winter, add a night's buffer for possible Kazbegi road closures; that is cheaper than missing a flight.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Georgia trip cost for a couple from India?
A 5-night mid-range trip for two costs from about ₹1,44,000, including return flights, 3★–4★ hotels with a Kazbegi night, a private car for the mountain and wine days, and e-visas. Budget couples can manage from about ₹1,16,000 with guesthouses and shared tours.
Is Georgia cheaper than Europe?
Much cheaper. Hotels, food and transport in Georgia cost a fraction of Western European prices, and you avoid the Schengen visa process. A 5-night Georgia trip with flights starts around ₹58,000–72,000 per person, while a comparable Western Europe trip costs several times more.
How much cash should I carry to Georgia?
Cards work widely in Tbilisi, Gudauri and most hotels. Carry about USD 100–150 per person in cash, exchanged to lari, for village wineries, roadside stalls, tips and small cafés in Kazbegi. Exchange offices in Tbilisi usually give better rates than the airport.
Is a Georgia winter trip cheaper than summer?
Tbilisi hotels are cheaper in winter, but Gudauri ski hotels charge peak rates over Christmas and New Year, and ski passes and gear add ₹5,000–8,000 a day. Overall, a winter snow trip costs about the same as a summer trip, while shoulder months like May and October are cheapest.
