Quick answer
February is one of the best-value months of the year: the weather is still good across most of India, and prices from the December–January peak have eased. In India, pick Jaisalmer for the Desert Festival, the Andaman Islands for calm seas, or Kerala for backwaters. Abroad, choose Vietnam outside Tet week, Sri Lanka for dry coasts, or Japan for Hokkaido's snow festival.

21–32°C, dryGoa
Goa Carnival brings float parades to Panaji, Margao and Mapusa over the weekend before Lent, which is early February in 2027. Outside that weekend, rates are well below the December peak and the weather is at its driest.

10–27°C, dryRanthambore
Mild days and thinning undergrowth make February a good month for tiger sightings. Safari permits are sold online, and weekend morning slots in the popular zones sell out weeks ahead.
Best places abroad in February
15–33°C, dry in the southVietnam
Central Vietnam is drying out, the south is hot and sunny, and the north is cool and often drizzly. Avoid Tet week in early February 2027, when shops close and transport sells out; the rest of the month is good value.
23–31°C, mostly drySri Lanka
February is dry on the west and south coasts and in the Cultural Triangle, so Sigiriya, Kandy and Galle fit into one trip. Whale-watching boats run daily from Mirissa.
Tokyo 2–10°C, dry; Sapporo below 0°CJapan
The Sapporo Snow Festival in early February fills Odori Park with ice sculptures, and Hokkaido's ski resorts have deep powder. Tokyo is cold but dry and clear, with plum blossom by late February.

Calving season in the southern Serengeti draws huge wildebeest herds and the predators that follow them. Late January to early March is the window, and February is a short dry spell between the rains.

Snow at Jungfraujoch, Titlis and the ski resorts is at its best, and outside European school-holiday weeks Lucerne and Interlaken hotels cost less than in summer. Days are short and cold, so plan two or three main excursions.

Why is February one of the best-value months?
February keeps January's weather but drops its prices. The New Year and winter-break crowds have gone, hotel rates in Goa, Kerala, Rajasthan and Thailand fall back from their peak, and domestic fares on most routes ease. Three to four weeks' notice is usually enough for a domestic trip.
Two things shape who travels. The Indian wedding season continues through February, so honeymoon demand stays high for the Andamans, Kerala, the Maldives and Sri Lanka; see our honeymoon tour packages. And most board exams start in mid-to-late February, so families with children in Classes 10 and 12 usually stay home until April, which keeps resorts quieter than you might expect.
Abroad, two calendar events matter. Lunar New Year falls in early February in 2027, which raises fares into Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam for about a week and closes many businesses in Vietnam during Tet. Ramadan is expected to begin around 8 February 2027 in the Gulf. Dubai and Abu Dhabi stay open, but it is polite not to eat or drink in public in daylight, and some live entertainment is scaled back.
Where is the weather best in February?
Almost everywhere south of the Himalaya. Rajasthan, Agra and Khajuraho have clear 25–29°C days and cool nights, Kerala and Goa are dry, and the Andaman Sea is at its calmest. Gulmarg usually has its deepest snow of the season; things to do in Gulmarg covers the Gondola, ski schools and sledging.
Abroad, Sri Lanka's west and south coasts, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam outside Tet, and the Maldives are all in their dry season.
Where should you avoid in February?
- Ladakh and Spiti: Still deep winter, with roads closed and temperatures well below freezing.
- Bali: The rainy season continues, with humid, grey afternoons. Fine for a villa-and-spa trip, poor for beaches and treks.
- Vietnam in Tet week: Shops, restaurants and some sights close for several days, and trains and buses sell out.
- Mauritius: February is the peak of the cyclone season and its hottest, most humid month. Storms are not frequent, but one can wipe out two or three days.
- Northern Thailand: Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai start to see smoke from crop burning in late February. Stick to Bangkok and the islands.
