Quick answer

Stay on the Corniche or in the city centre for first visits and easy access to the Grand Mosque, Qasr Al Hosn and Indian restaurants. Choose Yas Island if theme parks are the focus, Saadiyat for a beach holiday near the Louvre, and Al Maryah Island for modern hotels and a calm waterfront. Abu Dhabi is spread out, so location matters more than in Dubai.

Which area is best for a first visit to Abu Dhabi?

The Corniche and the city centre are the most practical bases. You are 15–25 minutes from the Grand Mosque, Qasr Al Watan and Saadiyat, with beaches and cycle paths outside the door and Indian restaurants nearby. Abu Dhabi's sights are spread across islands, so a central base saves taxi time. The rates on this page are starting prices for a double room outside peak weeks.

Where to stay for theme parks

If two or more days go to Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World, SeaWorld or Yas Waterworld, stay on Yas Island. Hotels run free shuttles to the parks, and the airport is close. The trade-off is distance from the mosque and the Louvre. Avoid Yas during the Formula 1 weekend (4–6 December 2026) unless you are going to the race.

Where to stay for a beach holiday

Saadiyat has the best beach and resort hotels, and the Louvre is minutes away. It is the most expensive area, and you will need taxis for the rest of the city.

Hotel taxes

Abu Dhabi hotel bills add a service charge plus tourism and municipality fees, which can add a noticeable share to the base rate. Compare all-inclusive prices, not headline rates.

Combining with Dubai? Stay near the Grand Mosque or on Yas Island on your last night if you are driving to Dubai; both are on the highway side of the city.

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to stay in Abu Dhabi city or on Yas Island?
Stay in the city or on the Corniche if the Grand Mosque, Louvre and Qasr Al Watan are your priorities. Stay on Yas Island if you plan two or more theme-park days, as hotels run free shuttles to the parks. The two are about 25–30 minutes apart by taxi.
Which area of Abu Dhabi is best for Indian food?
The city centre around Al Markaziyah, Hamdan Street and Electra Street has the widest choice of Indian vegetarian and South Indian restaurants, many open from breakfast to late night. Yas and Saadiyat rely on hotel and mall restaurants, where Indian options are fewer and more expensive.
Is Saadiyat Island worth the price?
For a beach-focused stay or a honeymoon, yes. Saadiyat has Abu Dhabi's best natural beach, large resort pools and the Louvre nearby. For a sightseeing trip with a tight budget, the Corniche gives similar access to the city at a lower price, with public beaches across the road.
