How to spend less without ruining the trip
- Book ICE trains on the Deutsche Bahn app three to six weeks ahead; saver fares cost a fraction of walk-up prices.
- Use the Bayern-Ticket for the Neuschwanstein day trip; one ticket covers up to five people on regional trains and buses.
- Avoid Munich during Oktoberfest and Frankfurt or Munich during big trade fairs, when hotel rates double.
- Buy breakfast and snacks at bakeries and supermarkets; a pretzel and coffee costs a fraction of a café breakfast.
- Many of the best sights, including Dachau, the Reichstag dome, the Berlin Wall and Munich's old town, are free.
- Fly open-jaw into Frankfurt and out of Munich rather than paying for a train back to your arrival city.
How much does a Germany trip cost from India?
For a 6-night trip covering Heidelberg, the Black Forest, Munich and Neuschwanstein, plan on about ₹1,70,000 per person for a mid-range trip, twin sharing, including return flights from Delhi or Mumbai and the Schengen visa. A budget trip starts around ₹1,30,000 and luxury from about ₹3,00,000.
The estimate follows our 6-day Germany itinerary, with one extra night in Munich.
What drives the cost?
- Flights: Lufthansa and Air India fly non-stop to Frankfurt and Munich from several Indian metros, and Gulf and Turkish carriers offer one-stop options. Return fares run ₹55,000–90,000, lowest from January to March.
- Hotels: a central 3★ room in Munich costs about €130–190 a night in summer. During Oktoberfest and major trade fairs, the same room can cost two or three times as much.
- Trains: fast ICE trains are excellent but expensive at the last minute. Booking a few weeks ahead keeps rail costs low.

Visa, TCS and forex
The Schengen visa fee is €90, about ₹9,200, plus a VFS service charge. Apply through the German mission if Germany is your main destination, as early as six months ahead, because summer slots in India fill fast. Our Germany visa guide and Schengen visa guide cover documents.
On tour packages, TCS of 2% applies from April 2026 and is adjustable against income tax. Germany still prefers cash in some bakeries and beer halls, so carry €100–150 alongside a forex card; our foreign exchange team can set one up. Schengen rules require travel insurance with at least €30,000 medical cover.
Oktoberfest (18 September–3 October 2027) and the December markets are the priciest times. See the best time to visit Germany.
