How to spend less without ruining the trip

  • Stay in Vinohrady or Karlín, 10 minutes by tram from the Old Town, where hotels and restaurants cost noticeably less.
  • Eat lunch from the daily menu (denní menu) at local restaurants, a set meal that costs far less than dinner prices.
  • Buy a 24-hour or 72-hour transit pass rather than single tickets if you will ride more than three times a day.
  • Combine Prague with Vienna and Budapest on one trip to spread the flight cost over more nights.
  • Always pay card bills in koruna, not rupees, and avoid street exchange booths advertising zero commission.

How much does a Prague trip cost from India?

For a 4-night trip, plan on about ₹1,25,000 per person for a mid-range trip, twin sharing, including return flights from Delhi or Mumbai and the Schengen visa. A budget trip starts around ₹92,000 and luxury from about ₹2,20,000.

What drives the cost?

  • Hotels: a central 3★–4★ room costs €110–165 a night in summer and December, and much less in January to March.
  • Everything else is good value: meals, beer, public transport and entry tickets cost noticeably less than in Paris, Vienna or Munich.
  • Season: January to March brings the lowest hotel rates and fares from India, while the Christmas market weeks, Easter and summer weekends are the most expensive times to book.

Visa, TCS and forex

The Czech Republic is in the Schengen area. The visa fee is €90, about ₹9,200, plus a VFS charge; apply through the Czech embassy if Prague is your main stop. See our Czech Republic visa guide and Schengen visa guide.

The country uses the koruna, not the euro, though some places quote both. Load koruna or euros on a forex card through our foreign exchange desk, and decline card terminals that offer to charge you in rupees. On tour packages, TCS of 2% applies from April 2026, adjustable against income tax. Schengen visas need travel insurance with at least €30,000 medical cover.

December markets and summer weekends bring the highest hotel rates. See the best time to visit Prague.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Prague trip cost from India?
A mid-range 4-night trip costs from about ₹1,25,000 per person, twin sharing, including return flights from Delhi or Mumbai, a central 3★–4★ hotel, food, sightseeing, a Kutná Hora day trip and the Schengen visa. Budget travellers staying in Vinohrady and using public transport can manage from about ₹92,000.
Is Prague cheap for Indian tourists?
Prague is one of the better-value capitals in Western and Central Europe. Meals, transport and entry tickets cost noticeably less than in Paris, Amsterdam or Munich. The expensive parts are flights from India, which have no non-stop option, and hotels in the Old Town during December and summer weekends.
Do I need euros in Prague?
No. The Czech Republic uses the koruna (CZK). Some tourist businesses accept euros, but at poor rates. Cards are accepted almost everywhere, so carry only a little cash for markets and tips. Withdraw koruna from bank ATMs and avoid the Euronet-style standalone machines and street exchange booths.
Can I combine Prague with Vienna and Budapest on one budget?
Yes, and it often makes the flight cost better value. Trains connect Prague to Vienna in about four hours and Vienna to Budapest in about two and a half. A 7–9 night three-city trip typically costs ₹1,70,000–2,20,000 per person mid-range with flights and the Schengen visa.
