Day-by-day plan

  1. 1

    Day 1

    Old Town and Charles Bridge

    • Morning: Land at Prague airport, connecting via the Gulf, Istanbul or a European hub, and transfer to the centre, about 30 minutes.

    • Afternoon: Old Town Square, the Astronomical Clock and the Old Town Hall tower.

    • Evening: Walk across Charles Bridge at dusk, then an evening Vltava cruise.

Stay: Old Town or New Town

Use Bolt or Uber, or the airport bus and metro, rather than unmarked taxis.

  2. 2

    Day 2

    Prague Castle and Malá Strana

    • Morning: Charles Bridge at sunrise, then Malá Strana's lanes, the Lennon Wall and Kampa Island.

    • Afternoon: Prague Castle and St Vitus Cathedral, with Golden Lane.

    • Evening: Walk down through Petřín Hill's orchards, then a black light theatre show.

Stay: Old Town or New Town

Tram 22 climbs to the castle if you would rather not walk uphill.

  3. 3

    Day 3

    Day trip to Kutná Hora

    • Morning: Train to Kutná Hora, about an hour, and visit the Sedlec Ossuary.

    • Afternoon: St Barbara's Cathedral and the old silver-mining town centre.

    • Evening: Back to Prague; sunset drinks or dinner at Letná beer garden.

Stay: Old Town or New Town

Book the ossuary's timed tickets ahead in summer; photography inside is banned.

  4. 4

    Day 4

Vyšehrad, the Jewish Quarter and departure

    • Morning: Vyšehrad fortress for river views and Dvořák's grave.

    • Afternoon: The Jewish Quarter synagogues and cemetery, then pick up bags for the airport.

    • Evening: Evening flight home, or a fourth night if your flight leaves the next morning.

The Jewish Quarter is closed on Saturdays; swap days three and four if needed.

Is 4 days enough for Prague?

Yes. Prague's sights sit close together, so three full days covers the city at a relaxed pace, and the fourth gives you a day trip. This plan suits couples and first-time Europe travellers who want time to wander rather than tick off sights.

How is the plan structured?

Each day takes one side of the river. Day one is the Old Town, day two crosses to the castle side, day three leaves the city for Kutná Hora, and day four covers the sights you can fit around a flight. Charles Bridge appears twice on purpose: once at dusk, once at sunrise.

What will it cost?

Mid-range land costs start at about ₹48,000 per person, twin sharing, for three nights in a 3★–4★ hotel in the centre, meals, public transport, the Kutná Hora train, the castle circuit and one evening show, excluding international flights. Prague is noticeably cheaper than Paris or Vienna for food and transport. Our Prague trip cost page has the full budget for a four-night trip with flights.

How can you extend it?

  • Český Krumlov: add a night in this medieval river town, three hours away.
  • Vienna and Budapest: continue by train, about four hours to Vienna, for a seven to nine day Central Europe trip.

Frequently asked questions

Should I visit Kutná Hora or Český Krumlov from Prague?
Kutná Hora is about an hour by train and makes an easy day trip, with the bone-decorated ossuary and a Gothic cathedral. Český Krumlov is prettier but about three hours each way, so it works best with an overnight stay. On a four-day trip, choose Kutná Hora; on five or more, stay a night in Český Krumlov.
Is Prague good for a family trip with children?
Yes. Children enjoy the Astronomical Clock's hourly show, the castle guards, Petřín's mirror maze, river cruises and black light theatre, which uses no dialogue. Prague Zoo is among Europe's better zoos. Cobbles and hills are hard on prams, so bring a lightweight stroller or a baby carrier.
How do I get from Prague airport to the city centre?
The Airport Express bus runs to the main railway station in about 35 minutes, and bus 119 connects to the metro at Nádraží Veleslavín. Both cost far less than a taxi. Bolt and Uber work well and avoid the overcharging that sometimes happens with street cabs. Expect 25–40 minutes depending on traffic.
