Quick answer
Four days in the Netherlands works well as two days in Amsterdam for the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank House and a canal cruise, one day for Zaanse Schans windmills and Volendam, and a last day in Delft and The Hague before an evening flight from Schiphol. Land costs start around ₹55,000 per person.
The route
- Amsterdam
- Zaanse Schans
- Volendam
- Delft
- The Hague
- Schiphol
Day-by-day plan
- 1
Day 1
Arrive in Amsterdam and walk the canal ring
Morning: Most overnight flights from India land at Schiphol early in the morning. Take the 15-minute train to Amsterdam Centraal and leave bags at your hotel.
Afternoon: Walk from Dam Square through the Nine Streets and the Jordaan. Visit the Anne Frank House on the slot you booked six weeks earlier.
Evening: Take a small-boat canal cruise at dusk, then dinner in De Pijp, which has good vegetarian and Indian options.
Stay: Canal Ring or De Pijp, Amsterdam
Check-in is usually 3 pm. If you land early, an early check-in request costs less than a wasted morning.

Day 2
Museumplein and Vondelpark
Morning: Rijksmuseum at 9 am opening: The Night Watch, the Vermeers and the Delftware.
Afternoon: Van Gogh Museum, five minutes' walk away, then cycle or stroll through Vondelpark.
Evening: Take the free ferry behind Centraal to Amsterdam Noord for sunset over the IJ and dinner by the water.
Stay: Canal Ring or De Pijp, Amsterdam
Two big museums in one day is tiring for seniors; split them across days 1 and 2 if needed.

Day 3
Windmills and fishing villages
Morning: Train 20 minutes to Zaandijk Zaanse Schans. Walk among the windmills, the clog workshop and the cheese farm before the tour buses arrive.
Afternoon: Bus to Volendam for the harbour and a traditional-dress photo, then the seasonal ferry to Marken.
Evening: Back in Amsterdam by about 6 pm. Free evening, or Albert Cuyp Market area for an early dinner.
Stay: Canal Ring or De Pijp, Amsterdam
From mid-March to early May, make the morning Keukenhof instead and visit Zaanse Schans in the afternoon.

Day 4
Delft, The Hague and departure
Morning: Check out and take the train to Delft (about an hour). See the Markt square and the Royal Delft pottery workshop.
Afternoon: Tram 15 minutes to The Hague for the Mauritshuis, or Madurodam's miniature Netherlands if you have children.
Evening: Train from The Hague to Schiphol (about 30 minutes) for an evening flight home.
Leave luggage in Schiphol's storage or at a locker in Delft station so you are not dragging bags all day.
Is 4 days enough for the Netherlands?
Four days gives you Amsterdam's essentials and two of the best day trips without rushing. The trick is to use the train network: Zaanse Schans is 20 minutes away, Delft about an hour, and Schiphol is linked by direct trains to both Amsterdam and The Hague, so your last day ends close to the airport.
With a fifth day, add Kinderdijk and Rotterdam's architecture, or Giethoorn's car-free canals. In spring, swap one day for Keukenhof, which is open from 18 March to 9 May in 2027.
What this itinerary costs
