Keukenhof, the tulip garden at Lisse near Amsterdam, is open from 18 March to 9 May 2027, daily from 8 am to 7 pm. The tulips usually peak from about 10 to 25 April, with crocuses and hyacinths earlier. Buy timed tickets online, arrive at opening or after 4 pm, and apply for your Schengen visa two to three months ahead.

What actually happens

Keukenhof, at Lisse between Amsterdam and Leiden, is a spring garden planted with around seven million bulbs every autumn. For about eight weeks it shows tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and other bulbs in landscaped beds, with indoor flower shows in its pavilions, a windmill and a canal-boat tour through the surrounding fields. Around it, the bulb region turns into stripes of colour, best seen by bicycle. In April, the Bloemencorso flower parade usually runs from Noordwijk to Haarlem.

When the tulips peak

Keukenhof is open from 18 March to 9 May 2027, daily from 8 am to 7 pm, with last entry at 6:15 pm. Early season brings crocuses, daffodils, hyacinths and early tulips. The tulips peak from around 10 to 25 April in a normal year. The fields outside are often topped, with the flower heads cut, by late April to strengthen the bulbs, while the garden stays planted to the end.

Tickets, crowds and getting there

Buy timed tickets online; adult entry was about €25–30 (₹2,550–3,060) at the time of review, and combination tickets with buses from Schiphol, Amsterdam or Leiden are sold. Tour buses arrive from 10 am to 3 pm, so go at opening or after 4 pm. Easter weekend, which falls on 28 March in 2027, and King's Day on 27 April are especially busy.

Where to stay and what it costs

Amsterdam hotels cost ₹15,000–30,000 a night in April; Leiden and Haarlem are cheaper and closer, at ₹10,000–18,000. Book three to four months ahead. Apply for your Schengen visa two to three months before travel, through the Netherlands if it is your main stay; see our Netherlands visa guide.

Etiquette, photography and what to wear

Do not walk into the bulb fields; they are working farms, and trespassing can bring a fine. Photograph from the roadside or a cycle path, and stick to the paths inside the garden. April is 8–14°C, often windy and wet, so bring layers, a waterproof jacket and comfortable shoes.

Combining it

Spend two or three nights in Amsterdam for the canals and museums, add Zaanse Schans and Giethoorn, or continue to Bruges and Paris by train. See Schengen visa basics, things to do in the Netherlands, our April ideas and tour packages.

Frequently asked questions

When is Keukenhof open in 2027?
Keukenhof is open from Thursday 18 March to Sunday 9 May 2027, daily from 8 am to 7 pm, with last entry at 6:15 pm, according to the garden's official website. Tickets are sold online for timed entry, and weekends and Easter sell out first.
When do the tulips peak at Keukenhof?
In a normal year the tulips peak from about 10 to 25 April. A cold spring delays the bloom and a warm one brings it forward, so mid-April is the safest bet. Daffodils and hyacinths are at their best from late March, and the indoor shows run all season.
How do I get to Keukenhof from Amsterdam?
Direct buses run from Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam during the season, with combination tickets that include garden entry; there are also buses from Leiden and Haarlem stations. The ride from Schiphol takes about 30–40 minutes. Driving is possible, but parking is paid and roads jam at weekends.
Is one day enough for Keukenhof?
Half a day to a full day is enough for the garden itself. Add a couple of hours to cycle or take the boat tour through the bulb fields. Most travellers stay in Amsterdam, Leiden or Haarlem and do Keukenhof as a day trip.
