Quick answer
The Dubai Shopping Festival 2026–27 runs from 4 December 2026 to 17 January 2027, with mall-wide sales, raffles, concerts, drone shows and fireworks across the city. It overlaps Christmas, New Year and Indian winter holidays, so flights and hotels peak mid-festival. Book four to eight weeks ahead, and travel in the first or last week for better rates.
Highlights
- Citywide sales in malls and souks, steepest in the final days
- Gold and car raffles tied to purchases
- Drone shows and fireworks at waterfront venues
- Concerts, pop-up markets and family events
- New Year's Eve fireworks at the Burj Khalifa
What actually happens
The Dubai Shopping Festival, running since 1996, is a six-week citywide promotion. Malls and souks run sales across fashion, electronics, gold and home goods, with the steepest markdowns usually in the final days. Around the shopping there are raffles for gold and cars, drone shows and fireworks at waterfront spots such as The Beach at JBR and Bluewaters in recent editions, pop-up markets, concerts and family events. Global Village and the Miracle Garden run separately through the winter, and New Year's Eve at the Burj Khalifa falls inside the festival.
Is it actually cheaper?
For branded fashion, fragrances and some electronics, often yes. Gold prices track international rates, so the saving there comes from lower making charges and raffles, not cheaper metal. Remember customs on the way home: at the time of review, Indians returning from a short trip get a duty-free allowance of ₹50,000 per adult for goods, and the gold allowance applies only to those who have lived abroad for over a year.
The best weeks to go
The opening week, from 4 December 2026, has launch events and pre-Christmas airfares. Avoid 20 December to 3 January if you are price-sensitive, when Indian school holidays, Christmas and New Year push flights and hotels to the year's peak. The final weekend, up to 17 January 2027, brings the last big sales and calmer hotel rates.
Where to stay and what it costs
A four-night Dubai trip starts around ₹22,000 per person land only, or ₹42,000 with flights, outside the holiday peak; over Christmas and New Year with flights, budget ₹55,000 and up. Deira and Bur Dubai are the best value, at ₹6,000–10,000 a night for a 3★ double in peak weeks, and close to the gold and spice souks; Downtown and Dubai Marina cost ₹14,000 and up. Book four to eight weeks ahead.
Visa, crowds and etiquette
Most Indian passport holders need a visa arranged in advance; those with a valid US visa or green card, or UK or EU residence, may qualify for a visa on arrival. See our UAE visa guide. Malls are packed on Friday and Saturday evenings, so use the Metro. Do not photograph people, especially women, without permission, and do not fly drones. December is about 24°C by day and 15°C at night, so carry a light jacket for the evenings.
Combining it
Add a day in Abu Dhabi for the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and the BAPS Hindu Mandir, and a desert safari. See where to stay in Dubai, things to do in Dubai and our December ideas.
