How to spend less without ruining the trip

  • Travel in October, March or early April; cruise prices are lower than in December and January with workable weather.
  • Check what your cruise includes: guided temple visits and entry tickets are sometimes extra.
  • Avoid optional tours sold on board at a premium; book Abu Simbel and the balloon ride with your package.
  • Take the overnight sleeper train between Cairo and Aswan to save a hotel night and a flight, if you have time.
  • Pay ticket offices by card; many major sites are now cashless.
  • Carry small notes for tips rather than handing over large ones and waiting for change.

How much does an Egypt trip cost from India?

For seven nights, plan on ₹95,000–1,30,000 per person, twin sharing, including international flights, a three-night Nile cruise and two domestic flights. Egypt's costs come from three places: the flight from India, the cruise, and entry tickets, which have risen sharply since 2024.

TierFrom, per person (7 nights, with flights)
Budget₹95,000
Mid-range₹1,30,000
Luxury₹2,60,000

Entry tickets are now a major line

At late-2026 rates, foreigners pay about EGP 700 for the Giza plateau, about EGP 900 more to go inside the Great Pyramid, and about EGP 1,450–1,830 for the Grand Egyptian Museum, where a further increase was reported from November 2026. A typical route adds Saqqara, Karnak, Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings, Abu Simbel and Philae. All told, budget ₹12,000–18,000 per person, more if you add Tutankhamun's tomb or other special tickets. At the reference rate of about ₹1.8 per pound, local prices look small but add up quickly. Plan priorities with things to do in Egypt.

The Nile cruise

A three-night cruise between Aswan and Luxor, with meals and some guided visits, is the backbone of most trips. 5★ ships cost roughly ₹28,000–45,000 per person; budget ships cost less, luxury ships and dahabiyas much more. Ask whether entry tickets are included, and confirm vegetarian meals in writing.

Hotels and guides in Cairo

Cairo hotels are fair value, and pyramid-view rooms in Giza are popular with Indian families. Compare areas on where to stay in Egypt. A private Egyptologist for Cairo's sights is worth the cost, especially at the museum. Cairo traffic is slow, so a hotel close to the sights you care about saves both time and taxi fares.

Visa, forex and tips

Most Indian passport holders need an e-visa of about USD 25–30 before flying; check our Egypt visa guide. Carry a forex card and small Egyptian pound notes for baksheesh. TCS applies to overseas tour packages bought in India and can be adjusted against your income tax.

December and January are the most expensive months for cruises; October and March offer good value. See best time to visit Egypt.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an Egypt trip cost for a couple from India?
A couple should budget about ₹1.9 lakh for seven nights on a budget trip and about ₹2.6 lakh mid-range, including international and domestic flights, a three-night Nile cruise, hotels, the e-visa, entry tickets and guides. Shopping, optional tours and tips are extra. December and January cost more.
Are entry tickets included in Egypt packages?
Not always. Some packages include the main sites; others include only the cruise's guided visits and leave Giza, the Grand Egyptian Museum and Abu Simbel as extras. At late-2026 rates, tickets for a typical route cost about ₹12,000–18,000 per person, so check the inclusions line by line before comparing prices.
How much does a Nile cruise cost?
A three-night 5★ cruise between Aswan and Luxor with full board costs roughly ₹28,000–45,000 per person, twin sharing. Four-night cruises cost proportionally more. Budget ships are cheaper, while luxury ships and traditional dahabiya sailing boats can cost double. Prices peak from December to February.
How much should I tip in Egypt?
Tipping is expected. Budget about ₹2,500–4,000 per person for a week, covering guides, drivers, cruise staff, porters and small tips at sites. Carry small Egyptian pound notes. Cruise ships often suggest a pooled crew tip at the end; ask your guide what is customary.
