Quick answer
A valid US, UK or Schengen visa lets Indian passport holders skip a separate visa, or get one on arrival or online, in about two dozen countries. The most useful are the UAE (14-day visa on arrival), Mexico (up to 180 days), Georgia (90 days in 180), Serbia, Turkey (e-visa), Saudi Arabia, the Philippines (30 days instead of 14) and Taiwan (free online authorisation).
Key takeaways
- The qualifying visa must usually be valid on the day you arrive, and some countries also want it used at least once or issued for multiple entries.
- Carry the passport containing the visa; if it sits in an old passport, travel with both.
- Transit visas don't count; most schemes need a visitor, business or residence document.
- Rules depend on who issued your visa: Argentina and Chile look for US visas, while Mexico and Georgia accept US, UK, Schengen and several others.
- These rules change more often than standard visa rules, so check the destination's official site and your airline before booking.
Why does a US, UK or Schengen visa help?
Many countries trust the vetting already done by the US, UK and Schengen consulates. If you have passed it, they waive their own visa, issue one on arrival or open a quick online route. For Indian travellers this turns a strong visa into a wider set of easy destinations, and often a better trip: Mexico after New York, the Balkans after Italy or Croatia, Georgia or Turkey on a short break.

What fine print trips people up?
- Validity on arrival. The visa must be valid when you land; Peru wants six months left.
- Used at least once. Saudi Arabia and Albania look for an entry stamp or record, not a fresh sticker.
- Entries. A single-entry Schengen visa already used to leave Europe cannot take you back in.
- Visa type. Transit and airport visas never qualify. Student and work visas qualify in some countries and not others.
- Old passports. Carry the passport with the visa together with your current one, and make sure the names match.
- Expired visas. These generally don't count. The Philippines says so explicitly.
- Discretion. Officers still check return tickets, hotel bookings and funds.
Plan side trips before a long visa runs out. A two-year Schengen visa from the EU cascade can turn a Balkans or Georgia holiday into a trip with no extra paperwork at all.
If your case is unusual, such as a US visa in an expired passport or a residence card about to lapse, our visa assistance team can check it before you book.
