How to spend less without ruining the trip
- Stay in Canmore, 20 minutes from Banff, where summer rooms are often much cheaper than in Banff town.
- Travel in mid- to late September, when Banff rates drop after Labour Day and the larches turn gold.
- Buy the Parks Canada family and group pass, CAD 24.50 a day for up to seven people in one vehicle, rather than individual passes.
- Book an open-jaw ticket into Toronto and out of Vancouver to avoid paying for a flight back east.
- Use the free Lynn Canyon bridge in Vancouver instead of Capilano if the family budget is tight.
- Shop at Indian grocery stores in Brampton, Mississauga or Surrey for snacks and ready meals for the road.

What makes Canada expensive?
- Flights: return fares from Delhi run ₹80,000–1,30,000. Air India and Air Canada have flown non-stop between Delhi and Toronto or Vancouver, though schedules have shifted in 2026 with airspace restrictions; most other cities connect through Europe or the Gulf.
- Banff in summer: rooms in Banff town often cost CAD 400–600 a night in July and August. Canmore and early-September dates cut this sharply.
- Two internal flights: Toronto to Calgary and Calgary to Vancouver add ₹28,000–45,000 per person.
- Taxes and tips: prices exclude sales tax of 5–13% depending on the province, and restaurants expect 15–20%.
- Season: late June to August is the most expensive window in the Rockies; mid-September keeps the scenery at a lower price.
