Is three days too much for Hampi?
No. Hampi's ruins are spread across about 25 sq km, and the heat means you sightsee in two windows, early morning and late afternoon, with a long break in between. Three days at that pace feels unhurried; two is the minimum.
Where should you stay?
Hampi village guesthouses put you at the foot of Virupaksha, but rooms are basic and building there is restricted. Kamalapur and the resorts along the Hosapete road offer more comfort, and Hosapete, 13 km away, has the widest choice of hotels. See where to stay in Hampi for the trade-offs.
How do you get there?
Hosapete (Hospet) Junction is the railhead, with an overnight train from Bengaluru and daytime trains from Hubballi. Jindal Vijaynagar Airport, about 40 km away, has limited flights; Hubballi airport is about 3 hours by road. Bengaluru is roughly 6 hours' drive.
What does it cost?
Mid-range land costs start at about ₹9,000 per person on twin sharing, covering two nights in a comfortable hotel or resort with breakfast, an auto or car for local sightseeing, a guide for one morning and entry fees.
Hire one auto driver for all three days at an agreed day rate. Hampi's drivers know the back routes, the opening hours and when to beat the tour buses.
