When to travel

October to March is the most comfortable season. November to February is cold, with fog possible in December and January. April to June is extremely hot, though the temple complex remains busy through the night. The monsoon brings humidity but keeps crowds lower.

Entry and paperwork

No visa is needed for Indian citizens. Heads must be covered inside the Golden Temple complex — scarves are available free at the entrance — and shoes are deposited at the free counter. The Wagah ceremony has security screening and bags are restricted.
