Common mistakes that get Indians refused

  • There is no visa on arrival for Indians; board only with an approved e-visa or embassy visa.
  • A valid US, UK or Schengen visa strengthens the application but does not make you visa-exempt.
  • Drones need prior authorisation; customs usually holds undeclared drones until you leave.
  • Agent sites quoting USD 100 or more include their own margin; use the official portal.

Do Indians need a visa for Morocco?

Yes. Indian passport holders need a visa, and since early 2023 Indians have been able to apply online through Morocco's official electronic visa system. There is no visa on arrival. Holding a US, UK or Schengen visa does not make you exempt at the time of review, though it does strengthen your application.

How to apply for the e-visa, step by step

  1. Use the official Moroccan e-visa portal. Agent sites quoting USD 100 or more include their own margin.
  2. Upload a passport bio-page scan (six months' validity from arrival) and a recent photo.
  3. Add a return flight booking and hotel or riad bookings for every night. If staying with a host, upload an invitation.
  4. Add recent bank statements, proof of employment or business, and travel insurance.
  5. Pay by card: about MAD 770, roughly ₹6,500–7,000, for standard processing. Faster processing costs more.
  6. Decisions usually arrive within a few working days; allow two weeks to be safe.
  7. Print the e-visa.

The e-visa gives a single entry and a stay of up to 30 days, and is valid for about 180 days from issue.

What immigration actually checks

At Casablanca or Marrakech, officers check the e-visa and passport, and sometimes your first hotel. Riad bookings in the Marrakech and Fez medinas should show a full street address; officers occasionally ask, and taxi drivers certainly will.

Morocco is strict about drones. Bringing one without prior authorisation usually means customs holds it at the airport until you leave.

Tips for families and seniors

  • Every traveller, including children, needs their own e-visa.
  • Medina lanes are narrow, uneven and car-free. For older parents, pick a riad close to a taxi drop-off point.
  • Sahara trips from Marrakech involve two long days of driving over the Atlas Mountains; consider a domestic flight to Ouarzazate or Errachidia to cut the road time.
  • Vegetarian food is easy to find: vegetable tagines, couscous, harira soup and bread are everywhere, but ask whether the stock is meat-based.

Money and paperwork

Carry euros or US dollars to change on arrival, as the Moroccan dirham is not usually available in India. Our foreign exchange desk can load a forex card, and our travel insurance desk can issue a policy that meets the e-visa requirement. If you want someone to check the application before you pay, our visa assistance team can review it, and our international tour packages page lists trips we can plan around it.
